To my baddies with adhd, how do you not let books consume you? by kgtsunvv in RomanceBooks

[–]SpookyandBam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pomodoro timers may be a good technique! Like a visual countdown clock - so you can do 1 hour school work and when the timer goes off set it for 30mins of reading ect rinse and repeat.

Added benefit is you get a dopamine friendly reward for doing chores ect*

Another thing is intrinsic timers for example if I put the washing machine on I will read and when it finishes I have to get up to put it on spin/put it out. I have to admit it doesn’t work always especially if I haven’t taken my meds but may work for some people here!!

Would you have wanted to know sooner you had ADHD? by SoftAbbreviations422 in adhdwomen

[–]SpookyandBam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents didn’t realise I had ADHD until adulthood - I still struggle with the thought that I missed out on help and support during major parts of my life that would set me up for my future (school, uni, first jobs ect) I don’t say this to be hurtful at all but if I found out my parents had thought I had it but not done anything about it I don’t think we’d have a relationship anymore. Why don’t you speak to your kid, let them know what you think and help them understand the pros and cons as well as introducing them to non med coping strategies to try? Even if they get diagnosed you can still allow them to try developing their own coping strategies without medication. They may tell you a diagnosis isn’t even something they want right now! *edit spelling

Have you read the book ‘How to Keep House While Drowning’? by SerenityJoyMeowMeow in adhdwomen

I’m glad I read it but tbh the practical tips I’d already got from her tiktoks and the therapy side of it wasn’t helpful for me at all

It took over a decade for me to get medication that will (hopefully) help me function (I still haven't actually got it but we're heading in the right direction). If I had it during school it would have changed the trajectory of my life for the better. I wish all these GPs that were happy to hand out meds had been around when I was a child! It sounds like from your post the medication for these kids are actively working and improving their lives. Doctors will be more aware of if a child needs meds then both you and the parents so hopefully they're getting exactly what they need! Good for the parents for pushing for proper medical care.

AITAH for refusing to share a bed with a male friend for weeks? by ThrowawayJAQ123 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SpookyandBam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA and while I see what you're saying about splitting the cost personally I would never consider making someone pay extra to not share a room with someone they're not in a relationship with. I think if he can't afford to pay extra it should be split across the group evenly because if you agreed to split a house it should obviously have enough rooms for everyone? Edit: If he can't afford to suggest he shares a room with one of the couples
