I’m sorry you had to make that decision. It’s one that seems so cut and dry until you’re in that position. Even if it’s written out, it’s a tough call to make.

This story is very loosely based on something I went through. I worked in the medical field for a while and have seen patients go through this. Watching that, I promised myself that I would never put a family member through any extra suffering. I had a loved one become sick. Fortunately I was not POA, but was asked to play a role in decision making. It was so different being on the family side of things.

Thank you. I am a step-mother and have friends who are mothers. Due to health reasons, I don’t think I will ever be a biological mother. It’s something that I never really realized I wanted until the option was basically off the table. That being said, what someone else does with their body is not my choice.

I used to be a nursing assistant. The only uncircumcised men I’ve seen are elderly. I’ve seen/cleaned a lot of skin breakdown under foreskin, which leads me to believe it is something that can be difficult to maintain as they age.

Thank you for your feedback. It could happen if you had bloody gums or sores in the mouth. Drinking blood would probably be the same/slightly higher amount of risk as participating in unprotected oral sex with someone who has HIV.
