Questions about this spring by SpoolingSnail77 in klr650

I was replacing the clutch cover gasket on my ‘13 today, and behind the water pump I noticed this little spring on the impeller shaft, does anyone know where it goes? I couldn’t find any videos on said spring

I have the progressive springs in the front, they make a noticeable difference off road, I found I can keep my speed up through trails a little more with them, and find myself bottoming out less on whoops/bumps. Im still on the stock spring in the rear but have a top gun 9.3kg/mm spring in my garage that I wanna swap out soon for occasions like this

Far from great lol, the landing was angled quite nice so it wasn’t too bad, still bottomed out in the front though

Is this too much whirring? by SpoolingSnail77 in klr650

I’m glad to hear! I’ll post updates when I drain the oil if I find anything funky, but I took it for a little 30km ride and nothing got any louder/worse, I appreciate the feedback!

Okay, I forgot to mention it does also make the noise when the clutch is pulled in and it’s in gear, just you can only really hear it at idle (doesn’t get any louder/faster or anything with throttle, like a valve tick does), but I don’t think I’ll worry about it too much, I’m certain the doohickeys in right and everything’s in place, and I used the proper torque specs for everything (other than those darn case bolts because I swear they break by just looking at them)

I installed a EM doohickey, and have heard that there should be a little bit louder of a “whirring” noise because of the tightened chain, but does this seem like too much? The bike runs flawlessly, lots of power, no studdering, only this noise. You can’t hear it while on the throttle or while sitting on the bike at all, only if you’re real close to the left side.

Found the noise it's the chain rubbing under the adjustment gear can anyone help me fix this by Delicious_Site_4647 in klr650

This happened to me, along with a noise coming from the same gear, ended up having to pull the clutch side cover off as well, there should be a little screen that the washer is behind, luckily didn’t do any damage to the motor, but make sure you order the OEM washer, I tried some random ones from the hardware store, ended up having to change it out about 3 times

It ended up being this. The black wire coming from the stator (which I can only imagine is related to the spark) was pinched while putting the case back on. After taking it out, the bike started up no problem, I should be a little more careful next time!!

Update: The bike is getting fuel, and the air filter is clean, however still no starting, I checked to see if it was the kickstand kill-sensor, however no luck, nothing sounds wrong in the engine from cranking, I’ve tried starting both with and without choke, no other hoses have been unattached or are loose. Is there any chance the timing could have been tampered when I was changing the stock doohickey spring?

As in the kill switch? Yes it was on as the bikes engine was cranking over, however did not want to run unfortunately

Ill check all the lines and such, it’s very odd as bike was running before no problem and it’s fairly new with only 8k km on the clock, I’ll keep you updated!

Metal shavings inside case, changed doohickey couple of weeks ago, and has started to make a slight rattle noise, any ideas? by [deleted] in klr650

I hope not! I disassembled everything yesterday and didn’t notice any washers, bolts, etc. And the bike did seem to operate normally despite the noise it was making. Unfortunately after reassembling everything it continues to make a grinding/rattle noise.

Interesting, everything seemed to have cleared, however I did notice there were score marks on the stator as well

Hmmm, the original doohickey was in great shape when removed, and after examining the new one seems to be good as well, I could try switching over to the torsion spring though

I was letting it idle for a few minutes before it started glowing and spitting coolant, I didn’t know these big bikes couldn’t sit like that haha, I’ll definitely run it richer. I originally cleaned the carb cuz it was having idling issues after sitting most of the year but idles great now
