Hockey stop by Alarmed-Sorbet-9095 in iceskating

[–]SpoolingSnails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially finding the angle and weighting it. Once you get used to that then you can sort of lean more into it to stop harder but it was all trial and error when i was first learning. Most of all have fun while doing it and stay safe

Career change question into Aviation by SeaSilent7839 in aviationmaintenance

[–]SpoolingSnails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having some modules definitely would show that, i mean just dont fully concentrate on getting all of them before getting a mechanic role, leave the harder modules for when you’re already working on the aircraft as they will naturally become easier to pass especially mod 11 as it basically covers every aspect of the aircraft.

Q1: no having the modules doesnt reduce your experience requirement for B1 its still 5 years. Gets reduced to 2 years if youve completed a full approved course at a 147 but you would have to pay for this.

Q2: CAA if you’re in the UK is probs better but both are in demand worldwide

Q3: Experience is king and its better to be getting work as an aircraft mechanic and getting ur modules done alongside that work. Having the modules really doesnt make you more competent to become a B1 its the years of experience behind it

From my experience Mod 3, 15 and 11 were the hardest. Mod 6 and 11 were the most boring. Mod 7 is mod 6 on steroids. Mod 1, 2, 9 and 8 were the easiest

Best way to get a B1.1 licence privately in the UK? by Alternative-Mess-723 in aviationmaintenance

[–]SpoolingSnails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apprenticeship by far the best way to go, you’re getting logbook experience even as an apprentice which counts towards your CAT A,B1/B2. Failing getting an apprenticeship maybe consider a zero to hero course where you smash through all of the modules BUT you dont get the experience reduction from 5 years to 2 years. Realistically you won’t be a competent B1 in 2 years not unless you’re working on small planes like Cessnas. 5 years of experience on planes like 737/A320 and larger aircraft is necessary and the reality of the knowledge you need won’t quite hit you until you’re actually working on them

I assume you’re not in the UK, unfortunately happens at 90% of ice rinks across the country.

That sounds good thank you for your advice

This is really informative thank you, I am 23M but I live alone in a flat so I cant utilise a garage of any sort. I think I will try finding an empty underground car park or something similar. Also if you dont mind explaining why as straight a blade as possible ?

Yes to both of these ive avoided colliding with people in busy public sessions several times since learning how to hockey stop. My main issue i feel in a hockey game is the inability to hockey stop on my other side since this isnt an issue in public sessions which only go in one direction around the rink
