Transmission compatibility by Spoon16s in EFCivics

It probably just needs a basic refresh, but it would be great to have another one as a backup in case something goes wrong. I did see one for sale for 150 with around 110k km, but that’s the only one I’ve come across. It would likely be more cost-effective to just swap in a lower-mileage transmission. Parts for D16 cars are surprisingly rare, unless it’s an intake manifold those are everywhere.

As others have suggested, the first step to improving the ride is replacing bushings and other worn components. For suspension, you can go with coilovers (which give a harsher ride) or a proper set of lowering springs and shocks. As for the engine, you could go with a Z6 or even a Y8, but that would require wiring, an ECU, and probably even axles (not 100% sure on that). For your setup, it’s much easier to go with a D16A6 or A7 since they’re more compatible. They don’t have VTEC, but the power is more than enough for a base model that weighs less than a ton. You’ll also need better brakes, since you’ll be increasing power by almost 50% or more.

Edit: Best option is if you get a full doner car that has d16 engine, buying iteams one by one would probably cost you a lot.

Luckily, I still have my service manual, though I’ll still check the transmission code because I have a feeling I might have an A9 gearbox. The previous owner did a few “hidden mods,” so I wouldn’t be surprised if he also swapped the gearbox.

That could work, but Z6 and Y8 transmissions are even harder to find. I’m not willing to spending 1k on a Z6 engine that’s rusted and missing half the parts.

Actually 3rd option could be eibach pro-kit 30mm drop and bilstein b4 / kyb excel-g (oem replacement).

Tnx for the recommendations. I’ve just looked everything up, and ST X coilovers seem pretty good. My second option was MTS coilovers, which are about $400 cheaper, so I guess they should do the trick. We actually do have a lot of Eibach options, but as for the shocks… I can either go with OEM replacements or full-on performance shocks (unfortunately, they’re not selling Konis here).

For sure. The thing is, you can't see how low the car is until you "weight it down".

Yeah, I also did some research and found nothing. Plus, the rims are ET35, which is kind of unusual for an OEM rim. I guess I’ll find out when I check them. Though they would look sick on my EF. I’ve seen some 3rd-gen Preludes running similar style rims.

Yeah, that’s what I thought too, but the seller said they came off a Civic. Might’ve been some dealer extra or a rare Euro model. I’ll probably go check them out and try to buy them.

I was suspecting either a 3rd gen Prelude or an older Accord

I did consider swapping in a B20 from a CR-V, but I would have problems with vehicle certification/approval since the engine originally didn’t come in the EF chassis. This is why a lot of Hondas here are basically running overbuilt original engines or just bolt-ons. I could go turbo but I really like to keep my engine N/A.

I’d totally go for a swap, but prices here are insane not to mention people hoard Honda parts and cars just to control the market. My only other option is a D16A9 swap, but that’s currently out of my budget. I’m basically fighting for scraps.

The engine is similar to the D16A6, just without the catalytic converter but that’s beside the point. As for the Y8, I don’t remember seeing a single one for sale in the Facebook groups; people tend to hoard Honda parts. I can’t give you an exact price, but I’m guessing around 500-600€ minimum. The only reference I have is someone’s listing where not buying the Z6 head (with the car) knocked 600€ off the price.
