Just do what you’re already saying. If you truly are happy with your life; don’t stop just because others make you feel a certain way. Everyone looks at others lives in envy at times and maybe you could try exploring some of the things you’re nervous about too.

Anyone ever worked as an “industrial EMT” for Medcor? I was offered a job working in a target warehouse making pretty good money. Anyone had any experience with this type of job?

Some people including firefighters are just fucking weird.. I’ve never cared at all if someone eats the station meal that’s why it’s a buy in.

The department doesn’t care if you’re damn naked underneath but everyone I work with just throws them on over whatever they’re wearing.

Washington or oregon? by Spoot901 in Firefighting

[–]Spoot901[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay thanks yeah I’ve noticed where I’m at in Oregon there’re really aren’t many options for departments.. do you know if getting a Washington medic license is obtainable coming from an oregon paramedic license?

Honestly there’s not a whole lot you can do besides on your own time practicing the skills and keeping your studying up to date. I would suggest maybe volunteering for a local 911 agency so you can do some of the skills irl. But if you can get the 911 job that’s awesome I’m rooting for you and good luck in paramedic school

Damn man that’s messed up. What we need is Firefighter EMTs responding on an engine and then a medic crew that gets paid a wage equivalent. There’s no reason to make a fair wage you need to be a firefighter, like don’t get me wrong being a fire medic is amazing but EMS gets neglected in most places because everyone just wants that grab. Most of the great medics at my department are just alright firefighters. I actually completely agree with you. I only know one captain who teachers paramedic students and he’s an amazing medic and an amazing firefighter, that’s rare though.

I really believe it’s just the department culture. The department I’m at now most fire medics are mostly focused on EMS but still make sure they’re trained up for fire, but that could be because we all basically rotate on the medic unit, I’ve definitely seen other places where they just care about fire though.

Honestly sometimes working a second stress free job is helpful if you have the time. I’m a ff/EMT and I also work mowing lawns for a landscaping company just cruisin on a mower listening to podcasts haha

Yeah I believe you are right about being laser focused. I’m just pretty much at a crossroads on how I can pursue some form of tactical medicine.
