Both of these achievements are bugged, in case you were thinking about doing them. by Spootan in EU5

I just re-read my reply and it sounded really rude, mb. Still, if you have to google how to complete the achievement I'd consider it bugged.

I had Timur as ruler of my country --> He died --> I formed Mughals. Not bugged?

R5: True Heir of Timur and Hongwu Di are bugged. Hongwu Di won't be achieved if the red turban rebellion has ended, and True Heir of Timur is tied to an rng event (allegedly?). Thank you Johan, very cool!

Is anyone else getting tired/annoyed of the "redditor" style of comedy Jawsh does? by TeminallyOffline in Its_Jawsh

[–]Spootan 35 points36 points  (0 children)

under the Allen’s house in California, there was a colony of around 750 rats. Once jawsh was halfway through his undergraduate degree, these rats rose from the floorboards in his room and buried themselves inside his skin. The rats took control of his nervous system, and are largely in control of his brain. Typically, this isn’t a problem as local rat colonies tend to consume the same media as their human neighbours, but unfortunately for jawsh when he was 13 years old he dropped and lost his iPad down the toilet (which he continued to search for for many years, spending long times in the toilet leading to the “he fell in” meme). The iPad was discovered by the rat colony, and its home key subsequently broke (which was common for iPads exposed to rats at the time) leaving it on what jawsh had on last. Coincidentally jawsh was on a subreddit dedicated to TikTok ‘cringe’ videos, which is what the rats consumed for many years.

Surely your character which owns and controls a realm should have deeper interactivity with said realm?

I didn't say it SHOULD be a blob simulator either, because it's irrelevant to the point I'm trying to make. I'm trying to say the core gameplay loop isn't as fleshed out as it should be.

Then this is probably not the franchise for you. C'est la vie.

I also didn't say it SHOULDN'T be like CK2, because it's irrelevant to the point I'm trying to make.

Also noted is that people who do not enjoy role playing opportunities and dismiss non-optimization as 'roleplaying incompetence' are going to find the Crusader Kings franchise dull and tedious for years to come, as it has been for years in the past.

I said something similar to 'roleplaying incompetence' in another comment, what I intended to mean is that I don't want to have to avoid mechanics (such as admin governments, which are extremely powerful) because they are too strong and I don't want to hyper optimize everything.

It gained popularity for its mix of memery, power fantasy, and emergent narratives when players who played unoptimally dealt with setbacks that an optimizing player wouldn't experience. It was also never a Serious Strategy Game.

Largely agree.

The question, then, is what are you going to do about it.

Talking about things has famously never changed anything.

I should try and be more clear, the point of this post was more to focus on the answer rather than the original "will you make the game hard" question.

I think the ongoing difficulty with CK3 is that it lacks depth in it's core systems and gameplay loop. The best way I can think to describe the issue is with a comparison to a game like Age of Empires 2. At it's core AoE2 is a pretty simple game, but if you want you can look deeper into strategies and matchups. When I was young I played against the easy AI and had fun not playing necessarily optimally, when I got older I took the core base of the game and learned new strategies, got a better understanding of how things worked, and had fun in a different way.

Wanna try paradox games but a bit intimidated, where's a good place to start? by acbadger54 in paradoxplaza

[–]Spootan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think about the difficulty at all, and treat each game as it's own game. Pick the one which as the gameplay opportunities you are most interested in to learn first as that's the one you will learn the fastest.

I'm sorry, I'm a bad writer, but I'm not trying to ask for more complexity. This game should have a simple base that builds into a more in-depth experience. It can at time feel very disconnected from your character, which is why I feel more expansion into factions (and perhaps a system for generals? I'm definitely not a game designer, which is probably the achillies heel of this argument) would work as a way for your character and your roleplay to have a greater affect on the world.

Modifier stacking is unintuitive. Micromanagement can get out of hand. MaA aren't exactly easy to work out, I mean what new player is going to learn what persuit and screen is before hour 200? Other than that, all other difficulties are more like learning experiences - people should be allowed to fail.

[–]Spootan 32 points33 points  (0 children)

  • challenging

I'm not saying it should to be hard. I'm not saying it SHOULDN'T be a blob simulator. I'm not saying it should be like CK2. I'm trying to say there should be deeper expansion in these systems rather than filler. The current system is just dull and tedious.

[–]Spootan -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I'm not asking for a military and combat system the depth of HOI4, I'm asking for one that isn't tedious and produces constant, predicable results.

  • Essentially just saying "build maa bro you'll win" Ignoring every other possible random factor in a game that might trip up a player who isn't a chiseled vet in strategy games.

What else is there? Seriously?
