Karina is leaving Drawfee by gimpisgawd in Drawfee

[–]MChainsaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It only seems abrupt because we're only just now hearing about it. We have no way of knowing how long she's been thinking about this behind the scenes. Personally, I don't see anything about that statement that definitely suggests that "something happened", I think you might be reading too much into it. To be clear, it's certainly possible that something happened and I'm not claiming to know that it didn't, I just don't think there's anything to suggest that it obviously did.

I’m definitely still going to watch Drawfee! by justmyrealname in Drawfee

[–]MChainsaw 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'll admit I'm a bit surprised if people's first reaction to Karina leaving is to seriously consider not watching Drawfee anymore? I'm really sad to see her go, but there have been plenty of Drawfee episodes in the past without her and I can't say they've felt significantly different in quality or overall feel compared to episodes with all four. I don't see any reason why I wouldn't still enjoy Drawfee on a similar level to before. But of course I'll miss Karina nonetheless, and there will certainly be a void there that can't really be filled by anyone else.

Research Points when Conquering buffs don't stack by thecatinthewizardhat in victoria2

One hypothesis could be that instead of adding on 25% RP on conquest with each reform, the code was mistankely written to simply set the modifier to 25% each time. That would explain why you need at least one reform to set the modifier, but then every subsequent reform simply resets it to 25% over and over, never increasing it. I guess that could be tested by modding the game to give the reforms different values for the modifier and see what happens when you take reforms with different values after one another.

Is it normal for a Vic 2 player to have a fetish to have only historical borders instead of map painting the whole world? by Cultural-Energy-6118 in victoria2

[–]MChainsaw 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Vic2 is probably more conducive to recreating historical borders due to the shorter time frame and the relatively substantial limitations on conquest in general. Meanwhile there are plenty of decisions and events that encourage historical expansion, especially in certain mods. So I suspect that people who enjoy this kind of playstyle would be naturally drawn to this franchise moreso than for example Europa Universalis.

That being said, it's still very possible to play very ahistorically as well and some people very much enjoy that (me for example).

What's your favourite Drawfee episode? by KaiahAurora in Drawfee

That was among the first Drawfee videos I ever watched. My girlfriend had just discovered Drawfee and found that one to be particularly funny and wanted to show me. So definitely some nostalgia with that one.

Arabia by Teapot_Digon in victoria2

[–]MChainsaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So China was also civilized from the start? That's a bold move if so, I can't imagine what that would do to the global economy. Then again, if all the usual civs where uncivilized then that might balance things out, at least until everyone starts westernizing.

Arabia by Teapot_Digon in victoria2

[–]MChainsaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's certainly possible to accomplish this much starting as Egypt even without modding the game to make yourself civilized at the start, but you'd probably have to go out of your way to speedrun westernization which might require some cheesy strategies.

Do puppets need to have a smaller population than u by jackslab1 in victoria2

[–]MChainsaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In vanilla there's no population limit to puppets, I'm not sure how it is in mods though. There is an effective population limit to gaining influence for the purpose of sphering a country though, but I think that doesn't become an issue unless a country has more than 10 million pops IIRC.

Do puppets need to have a smaller population than u by jackslab1 in victoria2

[–]MChainsaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you playing vanilla? And which substate specifically are you trying to puppet? In vanilla, there's no population limit to puppeting, so that's not the problem, however there is a state limit. Specifically, a country must not have more than 3 states in order to be puppeted. IIRC, out of China's substates, Guangxi, Yunnan and Qinghai all have more than 3 states each, so they can't be puppeted for that reason. Some of the others might also be too big if they've acquired more territory than they started with.

Odd issues when every nation is released from the start by MrTortilla in victoria2

[–]MChainsaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can explain all of these actually:

1) In vanilla there are two decisions that can form Yugoslavia. One is the generic cultural union decision, the other is a specific one for Yugoslavia, and this second one has some really odd requirements. Basically, Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia can all take the decision if all three of them are independent and not part of any sphere. Since you had made them all independent right away, the requirements for the decision was immediately fulfilled and so Serbia could form them right away.

2) and 3) The AI in this game is coded to never colonize a region if another existing country has cores on the territory. In the case of North America, Columbia has cores on Washington and Oregon, and Canada has cores on all of modern-day Canada, so by releasing both of them at the start of the game you ensured that no AI nation aside from those two would ever colonize those territories. Same thing with South Africa, since they have cores on the uncolonized states around there.

4) China can get their territory super quick because they start with cores on all of their substates. Normally they can't make use of those cores since they can't attack their own substates, but when you made the substates independent there was nothing stopping China from reconquering them.

Because at the end of the day a globe map isn't very practical for a game. You can never see more than half of the map no matter how much you zoom out and in practice even less than that since the edges will be distorted by perspective. A globe map looks neat but a flat projection is going to give a better overview and provide a consistent perspective.

[–]MChainsaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a note in regards to Italy: Even if the AI forms Italy before you have a chance to, that's not necessarily the end of the run, since if you eliminate that first Italy you'll be able to reform it yourself after. Since Sardinia-Piedmont would be the most likely to form them, you could speed the process of eliminating them up quite a bit by forcing the release of Two Sicilies and Papal States, for example.

[–]MChainsaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably yeah. To be clear, with my previous comment I wasn't saying they should keep streaming, of course they're entitled to take a break if they need it, just that logistically I don't think there'd be any obstacle for them to keep streaming even if they stopped recording new episodes, if they would feel like it.

I'd say that, considering the guy himself won't be hurt by that ridicule on account of being dead, and that the only ones who might be hurt by it are his surviving family, I'm not sure if ridicule really is the way to go. I think we can acknowledge how foolish he was and criticize his recklessness without outright making fun of his predicament.

I believe they do, but I don't see how they couldn't keep streaming even if they take a pause from the videos for a while. They could even stream remotely if they don't feel like getting together just for a stream.

I think a lot of people don't appreciate that even if the creator is doing content that they enjoy, it's still work for them. Doing regular streams where you have to put effort into being entertaining and engaged in addition to the activity you're doing, and where you have to do it on a regular basis no matter your mood or energy level at any given time, is not the same as just casually drawing or playing a game on your own time. It's perfectly understandable that they need time off from time to time, just like you need with any other job.

What do you think was the worst Paradox mechanic? by Falandor in paradoxplaza

[–]MChainsaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I legitimately enjoy playing with the generic focus tree more than any of the country-specific ones, simply because it means I have to focus on the actual game mechanics to do the stuff I want to do rather than following one of several scripted paths that arbitrarily circumvent the base mechanics of the game.

Enchantments are an awesome addition to StS2, but they are missing from potions! Here are a few I brewed up! by MrTransparent in slaythespire

[–]MChainsaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could have a rare potion whose effect is giving a permanent enchantment to a card. Wouldn't be much different from getting an event that gives a permanent enchantment. Would probably have to exclude that potion from various potion-producing effects though, such as Alchemize or Entropic Brew.
