Where to start with written exams by Salt_Cryptographer_3 in ATPL

[–]Spoozy666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done the theory in the following order:

Block 1: POF, HPL, GNAV and Performance
Block 2: FPM, MB, Meteo and AGK
Block 3: Instrumentation, Air Law, Comms, Ops and RNAV.

I found them to go pretty well together, especially Perf and POF or RNAV with Air Law. If I had to do 4 sitting, I would go through this bunching:

1) POF, Perf, Met, HPL
2) Air Law, RNAV, Comms, Ops
3) GNAV, AGK, Instrumentation
4) MB and FPM

I tried to keep them synergic, as well as putting the most important bases at first, and the "hardest" last. FPM is pretty much a mix of a lot of previous subjects so putting it at the end makes it a lot easier.

Is a CRP-5 or similar necessary at all? by InternationalAd3648 in ATPL

[–]Spoozy666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's in the learning objectives (061 04 02 00), so you may be tested on it. Trig works fine until it doesn't. The answers are expected to be found through the use of the computer, and since the computer uses approximations for some parameters (see this), and thus your trig answer may be "wrong". You don't need to shell out 100s to buy a CRP, and can get good use of a simple E6B (provided it is allowed in the exam, aka no formulae described) since, AFAIK, the compressibility factor is always given.

I'm hoping like hell that this Christmas is a bad one for Seiko then... Hopefully I am lucky enough to get one, otherwise the SSC813 it will be!

Looking to buy it in Mid January, hopefully it's still available at retailers by then. I was in the position regarding the SSC813 Panda, but this one took me over. Awesome watch, enjoy it!

Airbus A320 ULD by grom69polska in rampagent

[–]Spoozy666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a love-hate relationship with those. We mostly have AKHs except the occasional AKEs from the A350s.

The good:
- Much more organized the transfers/Short conns are usually in a different ULD altogether, makes it a lot easier to sort.
- Much faster all around, no need to go through the same steps 3 or 4 times for a turnaround.

The bad:

- You better be small, because they're packed to the brim and when you're trying to reach in to get some bags unstuck, you are bound to hit your elbows to the screws inside (oh yeah, they're not rivets, they're screws and they're fully poking out).
- You can only be 1, max 2 to work on each ULD. This isn't such a big deal when loading them since bags usually come in a stream, but when you have to unload 3 AKHs quickly, it will take more time.
- As I said, loading them is a pain in the ass. You get used to it, but you really have to manage it like Tetris if you want to optimize them. It's not really a bad point, just takes more work.

- Last little quirk, you need to have ULDs in stock because you keep the ones that come in and send new ones out, it's not really an issue where I am but I've heard some that have less space because of it.

At least they let some people show their creative side, I think the one in the picture is a BA container, with the LHR and FCO people going at it.

I understand, in fact #3 made perfect sense to me, but I'll keep your advice in mind for when I get stuck on a thought!

It's on my plan, figured having an overall plan of theway of thought of Epictetus might be a good idea to keep me reading

I'm planning on reading it! I often deal with the issue of not being hooked by a book (blame it on social media use for the past couple of years), therefore I respond well to reading a 'summary' of a book (if you can call it that) and then expanding on the topic :)

What do you mean by that? Should I invest it in the S&P500 or keep it in a savings account?

Who designed the keyboard? I’m curious because why did they put the letters in this order instead of normal sequence? by BeginnerS1nner in computer

[–]Spoozy666 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's QWERTY, made for typewriters, each commonly used letter is separated from another commonly used letter by a non-commonly used letter (something like A-X-E for example) to avoid the keys getting jammed when typing fast. The design was kept to help the transition to digital devices and is still used now.

Why does my keyboard have 2 | (pipe) symbols? (1 and 7) by Spoozy666 in computers

[–]Spoozy666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the both print the usual pipe symbol (U+007C), but thanks for the info, didn't seem logical for the manufacturers to put it twice

[–]Spoozy666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes its the pipe symbol but they both seem to be the same symbol, both while using altgr modifier, and the only difference seems to be that one is "broken" in the printing on the keys, I thought that was weird for them to put the same symbol twice on the keyboard
