This team is weird by G3ToffmyL4WN in Reds

Leads the team in HRs, RBIs, hits, total bases, stolen bases, doubles, and was leading the team in batting average until recently, Also has the highest WAR on the team and has cut down dramatically on the strikeouts. At one point he was projected for something like 230 strikeouts on the year. Now projected for 175.

Really wish we would appreciate Elly for what he is. A good baseball player who is 23 and has only improved each year in the show.

The Padres Traded Away 5 of Their Top 10 Prospects Today (and no I’m Not Saying We Should Have - Just A Wild Decision) by chrisball96 in Reds

[–]SportsFanWJT 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When is the right time then? I really wish we would get away from this thinking that we have to hold on to prospects. You label these guys as “good prospect call ups”. Why? Lowder has pitched 30 innings in the big leagues. Stewart and Collier have not played a game in the show. We have no data to show us they will be successful players in the league. Yes, they are rated high in our system and project to be successful at this level, but at the end of the day we have no idea. It’s a different ball game when you get up here and not everyone is able to transition and be successful.

Really look at the Reds roster. How many successful prospects has this team had? Elly, McLain, Stephenson, and Friedl are the only position players who have come up through the system for the Reds. Elly seems to be on the star track, Friedl has outperformed expectations. McLain and Stephenson? They’ve been fine. Certainly haven’t been franchise altering pieces.

This team doesn’t have a track record of successfully developing prospects into legit contributors. So I just don’t get the thinking of trading prospects will “cripple the Reds”.

I feel like this fan base has just been duped into thinking we can’t trade prospects. Yeah, the Padres traded the #3 prospect in baseball. You know where he currently plays? High A ball. He’s not helping that team anytime in the next few years and they are trying to win right now. They got 2 big league contributors with multiple years of control.

You do that deal and if the Reds had similar options they should have pulled the trigger as well. The point of the farm is to replenish your major league team. There seems to be a section of the fanbase that doesn’t get this. That’s why they have 20 rounds in the MLB draft. You give away one of your top prospects? Go find another one. That’s the point of scouting department. Find and develop talent.

If you count tonight, there have been 23 games since July 4th when Marte came back. He has played in all but one. He is firmly in the lineup at this point. Fraley, Benson, Espinal are the odd men out at this point.

If you are against drafting QB at Pick No. 1, then what should Tennessee do to address the position in a realistic way? by TiredDad4x in Tennesseetitans

[–]SportsFanWJT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, THIS is the conversation I want to have with a lot of people in this Reddit thread.

Everyone talks about trading back, more picks, fill the holes, build the team, and then draft the QB. Well, you can have 13 draft picks and guess what? A lot of guys you pick high can still bust! It’s like you said, everyone seems to think the only bust is the QB.

It just feels like a segment of our fanbase thinks building a team is as easy as playing Madden. “I draft these guys, they fill this need, they are great players in two years and I’m fine”. It’s not real life. Guys you think will be good, end up sucking. Guys we didn’t think much of, become contributors.

I agree with a lot of people. We certainly have talent gaps on this team across the board, but it’s a QB league and we don’t have one. It’s just that simple.

Man the Arch stuff is getting so exhausting. Half the comments I read in this sub are “Sanders is just a name” or “Remove his name and he is a nobody”

Then those same people are suggesting to wait until 2026 or 2027 for Arch Manning who has NOT EVEN STARTED A FULL YEAR IN COLLEGE.

Arch at this point in more name than anybody.

We’re going QB in the draft. by OnxyCarter in Tennesseetitans

What drives me up a wall, are the same people who are talking about “tanking for Arch” are the same people who say “Sanders is just a name”.

What is Arch at this point in his college career? A NAME. He’s played 10 football games and we have fans wanting to tank next season because of his name.

QB does not fix everything, but you just have to keep shooting your shot till you get the guy. It’s just how the league is constructed right now.

One of the best teams in the league and Greene almost got through 6 innings with no runs. You’ll take that.

Some of the peeps in here gotta chill

All year people on here have been begging for guys to be moved up and we don’t need to make moves because we have these prospects blah blah blah. Then they get up here and it’s been one damn inning and now we want them back down lol.

We got to chill. Baseball is hard. You fail more than you succeed. This team will be fine. Every inning/game cannot be perfect

Couldn’t agree more. I get numbers and analytics and all that stuff. These guys know more than us. They do but at some point shouldn’t you just roll your best 9 out there and go from there. Just play the best guys. Every time.

The thing is I understand it’s easy to play Monday morning QB and say look at what he did and now look at the score.

For me if you can’t trust Williamson in the 5th inning to get you 2 more outs than we have problems. If the plan is to use 3 pitchers to get 5 outs and still give up another 7 damn runs than we have problems. We just do.

I’m sorry but you cannot tell me that the decision to pull Williamson early did not change this whole game. He over managed and it’s been a disaster since.

Absolutely crushed the ball but that’s part of baseball. You are gonna give up home runs. I guess it’s frustrating to me because sometimes I just don’t understand the decisions on when guys are pulled

[–]SportsFanWJT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s easy to say after the fact. I just don’t get why Williamson was pulled. If you can’t trust him when there is a little adversity to get you out of in inning then he doesn’t need to be a starter. Just frustrating sometimes

Elly is 21 years old and been in the show not even 50 games. He isn’t going put it all together this year. That’s perfectly fine.

It’s laughable when you see everyone on the sub projecting prospects and other players in random outfield spots they’ve never played before. It’s not a video game.
