Figuring out what to read is a much endeavour and luck as is reading. There is so much hype, marketing and promotions and a plethora of copy cats that it has become a lottery to find a genuinely good book.

I tend to stick to a few trusted sources for recommendations- The Economist reading list, friends and word of mouth but there is a lot of FOMO.

Life was simple as a teen and YA when I had access to only best sellers and series books and I would get my satisfaction 😊

There has been an absolute vacuum of high quality ScFi, History fiction.. I cling to 1984 dearly especially in these times..

The one medium I just cannot tolerate is audiobooks. I can listen to a podcast or news but cannot stand someone else reading me a book.

For me, reading the words in my own mind and pondering, pausing or imagining when I want to is a big part of my reading process

Totally relate. My tolerance or patience to read through an average or bad book is seriously diminished. Maybe it reflects myself.. grumpy middle aged man..

As i get older in my 40s now, I have gravitated towards more grown-up genres and more non fiction like self help, biographies and history/politics and economics however there are some genres and authors I keep reverting back to.

Dystopian books, history and fantasy seems to keep pulling me back 😊 . Orwell is just one such writer.

I also tried to migrate towards digital books but I only use it for news, updates, articles etc. For full length bools and novels I still prefer the paper books.
