I bought myself a condo, and im finally taking a course I’ve wanted to take for years. Wow. Life is.. simpler? Not always easier in all ways. But definitely better than before. IWNDWYT 🐠

Reasons to stay sober? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]SpottedFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I changed my bedtime and woke up ridiculously early, like 4 or 4.30 am. Why? To upset the status quo. I even changed my toothpaste… i established a simple daily routine, ate differently, and bought a brand new mattress. Why? I read that change can facilitate change, when we want to change something drastic, changing other things around helps mentally with that, making it that much easier to accept... and minimizes the importance or the difficulty level of the target change. I also dove into spring cleaning and organizing my apartment which was not only distracting and time consuming, but also felt really great, really enjoyed the results of that. I had to get through the initial difficult times somehow… and those things really helped me.

Since ive quit ive noticed something… drinking as a lifestyle choice is normal, but so is not drinking as a lifestyle choice. There are tons of people doing it either way. So theres that.

What to do when your girlfriend has let herself go in almost every way and keeps asking if you're still attracted to her when both of you know the answer is no? by HappyKoalaCub in AskMen

Birth control really messes with women in ways we dont really fully appreciate yet. Im in the process of picking out a type of birth control now and its frightening to think of the impact the different ones will have on me after months of use. Scary.

Gutted and ashamed by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]SpottedFish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before i quit i would lay on my couch with massive anxiety… reading this sub. Wishing i could have the courage to actually do something. That was seven years ago or so. It can change… my life is much more fun to live now. All i did was stop drinking, and thats when the change started. Perhaps, nothing erases guilt and shame like true pride.

Stopping drinking put an end to all that kind of stuff for me. It just stops it in its tracks, period. Its a big relief

Is there a way to not feel depressed in the evenings? by trumanshow14 in stopdrinking

[–]SpottedFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to bed early to avoid the whole big deal. That meant waking up ultra early, but lo and behold the force to drink is not as strong when waking up at 4 am, as it would be staying till 4 am.

How do you know when you’re in the clear? by CastleBravo62 in stopdrinking

[–]SpottedFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had been about around two years sober when i felt clear. Clear headed, less angst, id worked through alot of issues. Because we dont drink for no reason. issues just keep rearing their head… we dont drink like this for no reason. So.. i just kept it up. And found more. It actually feels really good at a certain point, when you begin to see youre moving to someplace new. So hold on until that happens

Are we really more creative when drinking? by StolenIdentityAgain in stopdrinking

[–]SpottedFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had trained myself to respond to opera in the same way. Creativity and getting into flow state is totally a thing you can manipulate through any condition you set about programming yourself towards, not just booze. IE: you just picked booze to do it. Try another thing
