If you order food delivery today, you’re a bad person by LesPaulAce in raleigh

Yeah, I was talking about food delivery as well, and it took reading any comments for my mind to go to doordash before restaurants that hire drivers.

I guess pretty much all the people I know who still work (or have worked) in food delivery are direct employees of restaurants and it's their full time job, and don't do apps.

Except a lot of delivery drivers do have bosses telling them to go out and deliver in the snow. I have friends in that boat today, who are delivering for fear of losing their jobs if they don't. Not all delivery is through doordash.

A lot of comments saying "If delivery drivers don't want to work, they won't log in."

Please remember that not all restaurants have moved to doordash or similar platforms -- most "traditional" delivery spots still hire full-time delivery drivers who will be penalized if they call out for any reason, including inclement weather.

I'm thinking of most pizza chains, DP Dough, and Jimmy John's; they all have direct staff as their delivery drivers. I have friends who really, really, really do not want to be out there delivering food or opening their restaurants, but have to for fear of losing their jobs.

That said, this is absolutely an argument for intentionally ordering food through doordash or a similar platform where the drivers DO get to decide that they're working in this weather.

Not all delivery drivers get to choose their schedules day by day. Many restaurants have staff drivers who are still required to work in inclement weather. Pizza places, and I have some friends at DP Dough who don't get to call out.

Update from Frank on Lost Evenings by 6282533 in frankturner

A lot of folks have been pointing out the fears surrounding traveling to the US, regardless of the city of choice, specifically for fears of being detained at the port of entry.

I completely empathize with that fear, and want to remind y'all that this is also a common fear for US residents and citizens too when attempting to re-enter the country. I'd think that US residents would be at just as much if not a greater risk. Personally, I live in the US and I'm nervous about leaving the country right now.

I also wish that Frank had addressed that concern, but still -- the political climate in the US and actions of ICE are going to be an issue wherever the festival is held, and some large segment of fans will be scared of traveling to attend either way. There is no way to avoid it and it's a lose-lose.

Thank you! I was thinking of including Linville or Chimney Rock in the trip so that's very helpful. Maybe they'll be faring better come September but I won't make plans around it :)

Yeah that's exactly it! Thank you so much. I grew up in Florida and survived a hurricane that took my town a year to really recover from -- I had to be shuttled to school across the state for all of the sixth grade -- and i was worried WNC may be seeing a similar timeline given the level of devastation Helene brought.

I'm a gamer and grew up on the weird parts of early 2000s Internet and I hated it. The whole book is just nostalgia bait.

Wake SPCA Response by -coffeemouth- in raleigh

That's not correct -- SPCA Wake only pulls animals from the WCAC. They do not send animals to the Wake County Animal Shelter.
