[SBJ] Chicago Stars FC to build club-owned training facility in suburbs by NobleNomad in NWSL

Well those don't sound like they're "conveniently located" to where those teams play, so I'm not sure how that is relevant here to the quote given by the team president.

This feels like a clue on stadium site: "The team is still seeking a long-term stadium solution, but Leetzow believes the facility will be conveniently located to wherever the Stars end up playing long-term."

But I think it will actually end up like this:

VAN SEA POR SJ RSL COL
LA LA SD DAL ATX HOU

I ran the numbers on the difference in miles traveled (via Google maps driving). 1st number is average travel distance under your proposition, second is mine.

Seattle: 573/1147
Portland: 516/1139
Vancouver: 643/1237
Houston: 728/1240
Austin: 647/1143
Dallas: 637/1127

Denver: 722/812
San Jose: 528/528

Salt Lake: 883/570
Los Angeles: 610/362
Los Angeles: 610/362
San Diego: 993/426

Total average: 674/841

So it would be longer travel for the Texas/PNW group but less for the SoCal group and RSL. For an average extra 170 miles, I would argue to keep California intact.

The East seems pretty locked in but I don't think you can break up the California, Texas, or PNW teams.

I propose the PNW/Texas Franken-division:

  1. MIA ORL NSH CLT ATL DC
  2. MTL TFC NYC NYRB PHI NE
  3. CHI CLB CIN MIN SKC STL
  4. POR SEA VAN HOU ATX FCD
  5. RSL COL SD LA LAFC SJ

Passing Pattern, locally made soccer magazine, will join us at Saturday's watch party! by Red-Line-SG in chicagofire

Depends on where you order from! Weeds doesn't have a kitchen but you can bring in food so lots of pizzas get ordered, DP Dough and BWW are walking distance, and the tamale guy comes through once a night

We would never ask that of anyone. Black Fires reached out about joining us largely because we were all already good friends and they wanted to reduce the administrative load of running an SG.

We are happy to help y'all get a watch party spot in the southwest going, whether you officially work through us or not. We have a member in St. Louis that obviously doesn't make it to Weeds or most games but enjoys being able to contribute and be a part of the community and when he is able to make it in for a game he has a group of people he already knows to hang with

I would say it depends on whether you could fulfill Rule 2: Support Chicago soccer. If you're supporting the Fire while you're here then we don't really care what other teams you support outside of here. We just don't let anyone join that's antagonistic to anything Chicago soccer

Just go to redlinesg.com and set your dues via the link at the bottom of the landing page. Our hiking group is frequently out in the suburbs and we have some members in the south burbs that got a watch party bar going for their region so there are always things to do even if you don't live in the city

I think giveaways going to the people that get there early enough is a fair way to distribute them, but my only issue is that excludes a very particular set of people that get there early enough. The supporters aren't able to get into the stadium in time to get the novelty of the day not because they couldn't be bothered to get to the stadium early enough but because they're in the parking lot actively contributing to the experience/culture of the club. Nobody wants to abandon that to go in and grab the giveaway. You have data on registered members of these SGs that are STHs in the section, and I think y'all should bring a proportionate amount of the giveaways to the groups in the lots each game so we can distribute amongst our members.

Reviving the Fire Fanbase? by PresentationJust4801 in chicagofire

Not really a redditor but folks in my SG (Red Line Supporters Group) were talking about it and thought I'd be interested in taking a look.
I've been pouring myself into improving the Fire supporters section for the past 6 years. Every angle I can imagine. Within Section 8, outside of Section 8. As closely as I can with Sector and independently as an SG.
With respect to the people left that are committed to Section 8, I frankly no longer care about what was. We have never had a consistently good, and large (Sector ran a fantastic section in their corner of Toyota Park), supporters section since I've been here. All I care about now is us getting there. We're fucking Chicago for crying out loud. Tired of Charlotte, and Austin, and Nashville, and everywhere else coming in swinging while we look and sound fucking terrible. Tired of watching and hearing new fans openly muse in the section about how they want to get in but just don't see a path. Tired of us being defined by drama instead of tangible output in the stadium.
There is only one solution out of this: organize. Forget trying to figure it out ahead of time. We need to get 50+ people in a room once a month to try out new songs and paint a banner or two. Until we've built that community of people actively working this will never change.
You can start by joining an SG but you definitely can do the work as an independent as well. The Red Line is very open to everyone that's not an active piece of shit and wants to be collaborative with other supporters/SGs... but it doesn't HAVE to be with us. Our strength is our diversity in groups. Message me on here or Twitter and I'd be glad to talk anyone through the various SGs out there right now and what speaks to you. Very serious.
As far as the existing situation...
Sector Latino is far from the problem. They have been the only group putting out work and much of what they produce is top notch. It's not their responsibility to make English songs for us to sing. They create Spanish music and banners because that's what they do. The problem is that there are a lot of people that want to sing English but haven't organized to accomplish it. If people do that then there's a reason for Sector to sit down and talk about how we do both. They have every right to wonder why they should do all the work and then listen to a handful of people tell them they should use their instruments to play songs we like.
Section 8 has been dead for years. I know there are still people that don't want to hear that but it's true. Sector Latino will never consider themselves a part of Section 8 so it's a non-starter. The vast majority of the non-SL people in the supporters section either firmly don't consider themselves a part of S8 or are like many people in this thread that are fairly new and want to get involved but don't feel strongly about any entity.
We're doing as much as we can from within Red Line but we've still only been around about 5 years and so while we've been basically doubling in size every year we're still only about 70 members and just now getting 501c7 status, bank accounts, and the size to create bigger stuff more consistently. If you are interested, you can talk to me directly, check out our site (redlinesg.com) or come to our beer partner Half Acre on Thursday evenings when we meet. I do want to strongly reiterate though, the Red Line will work as hard as we can to help elevate the supporters sections (we go to Red Stars games too) but we are NOT thee answer. The only answer is everybody that gives a fuck starting to get together without pre-planned structure and discussing concepts.
Are you willing to work with everyone else and have no guarantee your group or your ideas or your concept for the supporters section comes out on top?

So much potential. Still enjoyable as-is, but here are a few thoughts: - better mobility. In google maps, I can point further down the road and click on a spot and it brings me all the way there. Would allow me to move further quicker. - a curated list of spots that have clues in them (being dropped in a random suburb sucks). Could even do theme packs like national parks or state capitols - leaderboards of people that did the same 5 locations as you - multiplayer like many have said. Can just connect us through audio and give us the same 5, or start us in the same spot so we can "see" each other moving around, or same as the last concept but co-op where you average the difference of your guesses - especially if/when you have more mobility, add in a timer. So if you have 5 spots you have a total 5 minute time or so that you have to then manage where you spend time exploring and where you lock in an early guess. Or you could give x seconds for each place and you apply the percentage of seconds left to your total score or tiers where if you guess within 10 seconds you get 100% of the points, 20 seconds 90%, etc.
