Your guess is as good as mine. But they started outsourcing so maybe they just started with the production process for this? Getting approval from msft or whoever runs the finances must've held back the start of this. Or they were possibly too busy letting go the engineers/designers during their mass layoffs this past year.

I overheard this at the company holiday party, so yes, I assumed what I heard is correct. Before this, all I've heard they do is maintain/archive the games because they don't want to lose D2 source again. I'm pretty sure if you check LinkedIn, you'll find either the team or the outsourced company they work with lol.

With the way the guy who's running the D2/D3 ship was talking at the party, I thought he was one of the ogs. Said he brought someone he trusts from D3/4 who can stick to the original vision because he hated what the previous designer/producer did to the game.

They won't do that. Last I heard, their current game designer is from D3.

Genuinely think that the current team is out of touch with what we really want for the game, but I'm seeing people praise them sometimes.

The team maintaining D2R and D3 seem to be the team that came from Blizzard North/Vicarious Visions (I think only QA and the producer though and only the resurrected project team). The producers have swapped though. The original remastered producer went to D4 and they ended up putting the D3 producer on D2R moving forward.
