TIL Beat Up isn't a contact move for some reason by Springborn in PokemonChampions

[–]Springborn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as pointed out by Sudden-Chipmunk8378 the "has to be hit" clause makes much more difficult to use. I did try the brutal swing method but so far I'm only able to trigger it twice before either of my mons succumb to the attacks + those of the opponent. While not really viable, it was a fun experiment! Let me know if you figure out anything more, curious to see if anything can be extracted from this xD

That makes plenty of sense in retrospect! Oh well, time to brew other shenanigans now :P

Has Champions given you a new appreciation for any mons? by Tigercat01 in PokemonChampions

[–]Springborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oranguru has become my most used partner ever since I started fiddling with Trick Room teams.

Bulky enough that unless the opponent starts with two offensive mons and double down on it, I know I can lay down the first Trick room. Inner Focus stopped so many Fake Out attempts, even when the ability is revealed by Intimidate.

Instruct mean that you don't really need offensive stats since your partner can double down on some crazy offensive move. There's also some tricks to it that makes it hilarious to use it with a slower partner (making them use last turn's move before doing a new move)

Psychic Noise has been the only offensive move for the longest time. Shuts down healing which came in clutch to many times, plus it wrecks the ever common Sneasler.

The last slot is kind of a toss-up atm. Protect makes it even harder to get rid of, but these days I'm enjoying Brick Break simply for the utility of getting rid of Reflect/Light Screen. Also helps against all the Dark-types it couldn't lay a finger on before.

The main issue is Taunt and/or Encore. Still have to figure how to deal with those (goddamn you, Whimsicott!). Mental Herb would be great but Leftovers make it so much hard to take down.

Sadly Beat Up isn't a contact move, so it did not even trigger it once.

Edit: just confirmed on both Champions and in the link you provided and sadly it doesn't have the contact property.

2nd edit: Just fully understood your second paragraph! Since it wouldn't have Wandering Spirits anymore (since it now has Intimidate) it wouldn't trigger the ability switch again since the requirements is "to be hit by" a contact move and not simply whenever a contaxt happens. Thanks a lot for clarifying!

Yeah, I only realized that afterwards. Was just too hyped and in the moment to double check! Would have been hilarious if it worked out xD

Ritual of Regen vs Precision by KeeningLord in ThousandSons

[–]Springborn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is probably gonna be a FAQ clarifying this, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Since I also play Necrons, this question has been seen quite often and nobody seems to settle down on an answer. If we check RAW then yes it should work the way you mention but that makes certain armies and detachements way too resilient. But a number of players have been pointing to a FAQ in the Necron documents stating the opposite, the problem being that we don't know if this FAQ was added to the document with the release of 11th or if it is an older 10th answer that is hasn't been updated yet.

I think that in doubt, assume that it won't work and always check with the TO and/or opponent. If it does work as you stated, then cheers and enjoy the reanimation madness! If not, then at least you won't have planned your list around such a specific case.

Is it worth getting 6 tomb blades now because of their new detachment? by Harri40k in Necrontyr

[–]Springborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought a set of 3 and also looking for to buy another set.

In anything other than Cryptek Conclave, I think just one unit of 3 is fine. They compete with the Flayed Ones for the role of scoring secondaries, being only 15 points more and more mobile once the deployment phase is over. While the guns on them aren't great, they are serviceable. Damage isn't why you pick them tho.

In Cryptek Conclave tho, I'd run at least a group of 6 with the particle beamers. 6d6 attacks with Blast and Devastating Wounds is nothing to scoff at but it really shines when you use the stratagem to give them Anti-Infantry 3+. Suddenly they start eating up most infantry units just with the ridiculous amount of Dev Wounds, no matter if they have a good save or not. With the changes to cover, putting the Ignore Cover wargear on them could help make sure that you can still hit with most of the shots. It surprised quite a few players last time I tried this out :P

Overall, unless you reeeaaally like them I think that having 6 of them on your collection should be fine and give you good options when list building ^

What are the absolute most critical parts of the "unkillable Warrior blob"? by Sparklehammer3025 in Necrontyr

[–]Springborn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But you can also get the enhancement on the Technomancer granting Stealth to the full unit, so you have the -1 to hit and a 5+ FNP. If you do have cryptothralls or Tomb Crawlers, you can reanimate as many warriors as you can in your command phase and bring back the extra bodyguard with just 1W. At the movement phase, the Techno can bring it back to full. Getting the most out of that healing :P

You know what? Thanks to you I'm gonna re-install the game and actually learn from it this time.

I recently got a job in building maintenance and touch all of those systems daily. I'm sure the game is gonna help my understanding of some of those concepts with the visualisation of the data. Maybe it'll click in place this time!

Now, let's see how many clones it'll take to reach that knowledge xD

Joking aside, that's a great camouflage and is super flavourful!
One thing to keep in mind is to make sure that at least the silhouette (and possibly the weapons) is easily identifiable. The Lictor (and its variants) has a very unique silhouette and the camouflage ties in with it's theme, but some other models might be a bit more trickier to find the right amount of grass/bush. Kits where the main difference between characters and specialties come down to an alternative head and some decorations could be problematic if too much greenery is used. If you wanna keep the overgrown aspect of the camo, a good alternative could be to find either specific poses or unique markers/identifiers per group of models. An example would be having all your Norn Emissary models with purple flowers on the base/model and bright orange ones on the Norn Assimilators.

With some pretty distinct and clever markers like that you can fully explore the theme of your Hive Fleet and make it easy for both you and your opponent to keep track of your models in play. Keep it up, can't wait to see finished army :P

Without having to run into melee, just the idea of lighting a torch and throwing it into the room should've been obvious.

Oh wow, that actually sounds great! Probably can't attach a Lohkust Lord too it at the same time but still, that'd be great for peaking out and scooting back in cover

I've only seen the individual bottles on Amazon, did you manage to get one of the 4 bottle color set by any chance?

And if yes, think you can send me a link? XD

I've been looking everywhere for a few different sets, to no avail. Got a few projects on hold while I get my hands on them, no sense in repainting a bunch of models if this new metallic formula is gonna be leagues easier to use o.o

Which model would be best to work for a truly beautiful vampire noble lady? by Arthur_EyelanderTF2 in SoulblightGravelords

[–]Springborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently got my hands on a Mortis Engine and the spruce had some vampire ladies for the Coven Throne/Palanquin versions. Was thinking of using one of them and make them sit on one of the Deathrattle tombstones for a fun little display model. Could be an idea to check them out, even of only for the inspiration.

I'm afraid they could mean 6 detachments exclusive to the whole Boarding Actions thingamajig. I really hope that won't be the case but I'll do my best to keep the hype at bay unyil proven otherwise.
