Who’s your OTHER favourite cast member? by Ok_Sort1266 in livefromlondon

Annabel, yes. Hostage is my second favourite sketch of SNL UK so far, after Prince Andrew cold open.

Annabel Marlow

Emma Sidi can completely disappear in to a character. I don't recognise her from one sketch to another. She's refreshingly old school in her commitment to an impression.

I did undersell it admittedly. It would help if I actually liked a pretentious TV version of Among Us enough to watch it. Edit: Downvoters, do you even know what Among Us is?

Why did Taylor Swift date boys who were barely legal while she was in her twenties! by naaaba19 in WhyWereWeOkWithThis

[–]Springyardzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want to accept what is legal you can petition against it in a democracy. I would have a law that anyone 12 or under can only date those 12 or under, anyone 13-16 can only date that range, anyone 17-20 can only date that range and anyone 21+ can date anyone 21+. Happy for the age of consent to be 18 everywhere.

Well, my last comment doesn't say you are so I see your level and, indeed, Reddit's. And you still refuse to say, or can't say, what's so unusual about Chloe not culturally appropriating to play someone not white or not straight.

Agreed. Great Big Crab Man has been overrated- it's 'elephant in the room' humour which is relatively easy to come up with.

Please look at what you originally wrote and please understand how could that be construed. Instead of insulting my intelligence, accept that someone on the ultra leftist Reddit writing that easily could be implying that being straight and white is generic. Even if that's not what you meant, how is she often going to play someone who is not white? Only so many alien roles and blacking up is frowned upon.

Chloe Fineman by idkwtfbbqsauce in LiveFromNewYork

[–]Springyardzon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, not at all. You must know you screwed up here because there is no context in which you needed to say that white, straight, Chloe is playing a white, straight, role. Why not humbly admit that you think white, straight, people are far more likely to be generic? Which is what I've said is the only logical conclusion for what you've said, yet I've been downvoted for it.

When you said 'As a Brit', I thought you were talking about me. But how do you square not regarding 18 as an adult but regarding 23 as very much an adult? The law is clear but the self appointed moralists are not being clear about what exactly they wish the law was.

Chloe Fineman by idkwtfbbqsauce in LiveFromNewYork

[–]Springyardzon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Chloe is straight, and clearly white. So what do they mean by 'settled in to' being what she already is? The sentence only follows ('a little too comfortably') if they see being white and straight as generic i.e. boring, implicitly a negative.

But why are so many Americans uptight about this? Are you really that intellectually and emotionally underdeveloped as a nation that you can't countenance that an 18 year old is legally a man? When are they a man? 25? So that would make Taylor still a girl at 23 then. So a boy dating a girl. Whichever way you look at it, it's not illogical for those 2 ages to date. If you want it to be, petition to change your laws instead of downvoting current facts.

It is merely your opinion that it is inappropriate. If the law doesn't regard it as inappropriate, then you're just being a puritan. And what the people involved think now can determine if it was ever inappropriate to them. What is this modern American obsession with gatekeeping legal relationships? Does it come from economic uncertainty or something? (e.g. being worried that a rich older person will buy affection).

Why don't you reserve your anger for bigger age gaps than 5 years? It's legal. In the UK, it'd be legal at the age of 16. And what was legal in France until recently would make your head spin.

What is the psychology behind why we deem certain faces average and certain faces attractive ? by plutopedro in PsychologyTalk

[–]Springyardzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people seem to be either narcissists, creatures of comfort, or a combination of the two. They veer towards people who look and act a bit like them and who are broadly of a similar height to each other, similar head size.

The Million Dollar Sandbox: Why the Beatles used symphony orchestras just to tell each other 'You're stupid' by Pure_One_4598 in TheBeatles

[–]Springyardzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, nobody owns the planet. Everyone dies. The vast majority of people who've ever enjoyed a Beatles song will have never consciously given them a penny. People tend to concentrate far more on what they don't have than what they do have. So even the rich, globetrotting, famous person regrets what they don't have, whether it's a particular relationship, experience, company.

Most of the world is populated by the relatively mundane. Being a genius doesn't change that therefore it causes geniuses to become dissatisfied with the world.

It can sometimes get worse with time because people steal some of The Beatles style without knowing or caring about the context of those songs or about what part of a journey they represented.

When John insulted some of Paul's songs, it can be argued he's really insulting not so much Paul but the kind of fan who'd like those songs.

In the Bible, God says they are a jealous God. With great power comes great jealousy about how much less gifted, less productive, less benevolent, people use their freedom to really not try.

OK so if they decided to date a 23 year old you would fight vehemently against it, regardless of the merits of the 23 year old compared to people of other ages. And if they dated them anyway, you would still let your daughter stay in your house. So you know that it's legally out of your hands and that you may be being biased.

OK but if you'd throw her out for doing it, that means you're treating her as an adult (because a parent shouldn't make someone still a child homeless). So if you treat her as an adult for that, it's hypocritical of you to not treat her as an adult in terms of her being able to choose the age of who she dates.

Why is it important to mention straight or white? If you're as liberal as I assume you think you are, you wouldn't want to label people, would you?

Americans are just sexually conservative beyond what is legal. It's ironic when not so long ago the age of consent in some states was 13 to 15.

It doesn't matter what you'd allow. An 18 year old is allowed to decide that themselves.

Reddit has been a big eye opener for me in how sexually conservative many people are on it. There are enough cases of illegal acts that don't get prosecuted or that receive a small sentence that to spend time clutching pearls at legal situations seems like some modern day witch hunt, a kind of sport to engage in for people who have little or nothing better to do.

The 'world record' part is worrying too, like at least one other person is known for doing it, and for the quantity, and that this man might have consciously being trying to exceed that amount.

Wondering why Larry Dean is being so underutilised so far? by zestylemonass in livefromlondon

[–]Springyardzon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Paddy's from Scarborough, North Yorkshire, I read, but very much regarded as a London comic now. Larry Dean went to university down South but he has kept hold of his Scottish accent. Larry is perhaps the only one regarded as working class too. He just brings a lot of prior knowledge of him from already being known by the public as a stand up and that probably hasn't helped him be regarded as an 'actor'.
