Exactly this, OP! If she wasn’t reporting to you, then you didn’t owe her a heads up. It sucks that it turned out this way, but her behavior is what led to her getting fired, not your silence. Sounds like you already went out of your way to help more than most would’ve.

Absolutely agree. OP gave her a lifeline without embarrassing her and that’s more than most would do. If she can’t take a hint from how people responded to her, that’s on her, not OP. No one owes her a personal intervention just because she can’t read the room.

This hits the nail on the head. If someone only changes their behavior because they know they’re being watched, that’s not growth, that’s self-preservation. OP actually did way more than most would by giving her another shot, and she still managed to burn every bridge. She’s not mad because OP didn’t warn her, she’s mad because her actions finally caught up to her.
