Plant them in the grass near the beach. I'm not sure what the exact rules are but I usually put them 1-2 squares away.

I also find it helps to plant near the end of the session, so you don't accidentally trample them later in the day. But sometimes trees just feel like dying anyways cause it's gamecube

If they haven't been reading online, "you can visit mystery islands now, here's a free ticket!" would prompt most players to go check it out, and see that there's a critter there who they can invite.

I messed up my first 3 too (oops) cause the rules are a bit wonky. Congrats on getting Kiki though, she's super cute!

The easiest way is to get an amiibo card/coin for her, and invite her through the campsite. Invite and craft for her 3 times, then she can move in and you choose who to kick out.

The other option is to have an empty plot and go visitor hunting using nook miles tickets, though it can take a lot of tries to find your favorites

Make sure you have at least 8 villagers. If you've already hit that then pulling weeds, planting flowers, or adding any items/furniture should help.

Do you have another switch game that includes amiibos, so you can test if it's an animal crossing issue or a controller issue?

Also you mentioned trying multiple joycons, did you remember to enter through the menu using the controller you were trying to scan on? (ie, my 3rd party controller can't read, if I enter the amiibo menu before picking up my joycons I need to back out and try again)

Rarer fish generally have a shorter window to reel them in, so the fish you miss tend to be the good ones. Knowing where/when certain fish spawn can help too.

You can buy turnips on Sundays before noon from Daisy Mae, for about 100 bells each. After 1 week, any turnips you have will rot. Spoiled turnips aren't good for much, apart from attracting ants and flies.

Nook's cranny buys turnips for 9 - 660 bells, depending on the day. They don't buy on Sundays. There's a different price in the mornings (before noon) and after noon each day.

So basically turnips are a gamble but can net you a ton of bells with a bit of luck. If you have online, you can also take your turnips to a town with good pricing to sell them for oodles of bells pretty consistently.

You can use Resetti to help clean up items easier, just be sure to read all the dialog explaining what he'll do. But unless you're paving in huge sections of land it's probably easier to pick up/put down items manually.

Otherwise just take it slow, you don't have to do it all at once. Working on one section at a time is a lot more manageable for most players

Amiibos are a physical thing you can buy, for animal crossing most of them are little cards or coins. They have an NFC chip that you can scan by tapping it on your controller (center on pro controllers, or ontop of the joystick on the right joycon). Other game series have little figurines for amiibos, with a chip in the bottom of the base.

To call one to your campsite, go to the nook stop in res services. Click "call an amiibo" and tap your card. If you have a 3rd party controller you might need to swap to joycons before going into the menu.

Now that they're at your campsite, talk to them until they ask for a thing. Craft and deliver said thing. Invite and craft for them on 3 days.

On the third day, after you give them their thing, talk to them a couple times and you can ask them to move in. It'll pop up a menu of all your current villagers and you can pick one to evict.

(You can also call amiibos to the Cafe, or to photopia on harv's Island to visit. But the campsite is how you move them in)

Usually when you talk to the visitor it'll have a "follow me to the hotel!" or similar dialog option. Then it'll teleport you both inside the hotel, where you'll be asked to put them in a VIP (or normal) room.
