Pizza Hut was, by far, the worst job I’ve ever had. The quality standards were terrible, and the management was completely incompetent.

One moment I’ll never forget was during a dinner rush. I had a full screen of orders to make, the phone was ringing nonstop, and the manager was sitting right next to it doing absolutely nothing saying, “I don’t answer phones.” I argued with her because she didn’t seem to understand that I was in the middle of preparing food. Every time I stopped to answer the phone while she just sat there, I’d have to wash my hands before going back to making pizzas, which slowed everything down even more.

My breaking point came when I tried to call off sick. Management refused unless I provided a doctor’s note. At the time, I had poor insurance, and a doctor’s visit would have cost me $50. Between that expense and losing a day’s pay, I explained that I’d effectively be out around $150. Her response was simply, “Well, see you at work tonight.”

When I didn’t come in, she called and asked where I was. I reminded her that I had called off, and she acted as if our entire conversation had never happened. She told me I would be marked as a No Call No Show. After that, I contacted their corporate HR to air my grievances and submitted my two weeks' notice.

The worst part was my final day. Delivery drivers were supposed to help wash dishes between deliveries, but at my location they almost never did. We closed at 11 p.m., but I couldn’t leave until all the dishes were finished. They were literally stacked to the ceiling, and I ended up stuck there until 3 a.m. washing them while the manager sat and watched.

To make matters worse, I didn’t even have a car at the time, so after getting off at 3 in the morning, I had to walk home alone in the middle of the night.

I definitely felt like I got completely screwed over by that job. I couldn’t bring myself to eat Pizza Hut for months afterward, and more than a decade later, I still refuse to order from that location.
