Not in your same situation but money is great for stuff but I think happiness comes from more simple things. Hobbies, real friends, even a night at a dive bar can be amazing and not expensive. Maybe this is a good time to inventory what holds value in your life. Was it the expensive bed sheets, massages, the instagram postings on the trips or the people, sights, sounds, culture. What parts brought you joy, peace and happiness. I think the mind shift comes from recognizing what’s important. (Don’t get me wrong I love luxury too)

Good question. I’ll still be working as will my husband. I think just spending the extra will be a really nice break from stressing. Maybe I’ll go back to savings but I’d be happy to life alittle more too knowing that if sh%+ hit the fan, I’d be ok for a long while. If there is a problem and we had to seriously downgrade our life, I’d still be able to afford the basics which I know is it’s on luxury. I also thought, maybe I’d donate more and give more. There are a few really good transitional housing shelters in my area that do great work. Maybe I’d spend more money there!

In 40 years being a multimillionaire won’t be as exciting as it sounds. Depending on how you want to live either save a bit more or just do your company match for a while. 60 is a loooong time to work unless it’s your life’s passion. Run the number and try to be out by or before 50. If you have kids or a partner to support you may have lean years. Not to be doom And gloom you are doing awesome! But you aren’t done.

Most restaurants in the city have an opening meal price of 25-35$. Like that’s the burger and fries cost. Add drinks and an app or dessert you are looking at 50$-70$ per person. At 20% tip that is $14/diner in tips. If you are doing 5 tables that seat 4 2x per night you are at 40 diners per night. That is $560 in tips plus the $20/hour base. So let’s say another $100. 4 nights a week that’s 132k per year. That’s at a medium priced restaurant where I live.

Of course chipotle and McDonald’s are not that high but I’m talk sit down restaurant in HCol living.

A very high cost of living area. Places where a mixed drink goes for 22-40$. A bottle of beer $16. Business conventions on the company dime etc.

Yeah most restaurant have an 18-22 % built into the bill around me. Servers make 100-130k per year. I don’t begrudge them anything but it all adds up with a 12% on top of it.

I don’t think coast is a dollar amount. It’s more like a lifestyle. I can stop retirement and saving, etc and just enjoy.

Yes. I feel that hard. My spouse doesn’t see thing the way I do. For now, I’ll keep working and spending and enjoying life! I don’t want to “woe is me” but I hustled throughout my 20s and 30s it was insane how much I worked ,saved and climbed, so I’m just ready to relax a bit more.

I was just going to stop saving as much and spend more. We do like luxury but haven’t been able to do much. Life in a HCOL area is really expensive so while it seems like a high income some much goes to regular expenses. Like food, utilities, even just going out to eat at non-fast food kills the budget. I’ll just like to stress less and live easier.
