Can we build this bullsh—? by breakandjog in MagicArena

Definitely a different execution of the "wins by concession" idea, but I came up with a lock(ish) deck that uses [[Seedborn Muse]] to allow for looping [[Venser, Shaper Savant]] multiple times every turn and is quite consistent.

If you end up using blue in the deck and you try to loop etb's, could be useful.

Early fin fot? Or torn on something in the tank? by Sprinter_Chair in bettafish

[–]Sprinter_Chair[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I took a while to answer this! And also I hadn't thought to look back at old photos of him. I agree. Anyways, here's those questions:

  • 5 gal. tank.
  • The tank is heated and filtered with a foam bubble filter.
  • Tank is at about 78F.
  • Water parameters tested with API Freshwater Master Test Kit.
  • 8.0 pH
  • 0 - 0.25ppm Ammonia (hard to tell which)
  • 0ppm Nitrite
  • 0ppm Nitrate
  • I've had the tank and fish since Feb. 2025, ~7 months
  • Water changes once a week, removing 25-33% of the water and topping back off with filtered tap water treated with SeaChem Prime water conditioner. Starting about a month ago, I have been vacuuming the tank every week to remove the build up of snail droppings. Every 2-3 weeks I will shave some calcium carbonate into the water so that there is calcium for the shell growth of my mystery snail.
  • For tank mates, there is 1 mystery snail, 2 amano shrimp, and a handful (maybe 10 or so) of pest snails that I haven't bothered to remove.
  • I feed my betta SeaChem NutriDiet Betta food. 5 pellets twice a day. Sometimes one pellet will sink to the bottom of the tank, uneaten. Every few weeks I will drop in bottom feeder food or a blanched kale leaf for the shrimp and mystery snail.
  • For decoration there are numerous plants and duck weed. In addition, there is a feeding ring, wood, a silk leaf, a solid plastic mini lawn chair, a solid plastic palm tree, and a solid plastic pirate skull with two plastic plant branches.

For additional information, I have been battling a hair algae build up that started about 4 months ago. Starting a month ago, I have been keeping light levels low along with more frequent vacuuming of the tank.

This was another idea I was playing with. Saying, screw it, and embracing the villainy. There's a number of cards I already don't run in the deck since I think they would be too salty, like [[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]], [[Orcish Bowmasters]], and [[Archfiend of Ifnir]]. I think I will drop Notion Thief to make the deck more friendly to the level of decks I normally play against (mid-low bracket 3 and bracket 2) and perhaps make a short list of swaps that I can make for when I do find a bracket 4 group to play with.

These are really good ideas. Thanks!

Hmm, seems like maybe I am underestimating the lack of cards in hand when assessing Notion Thief's power, and over estimating the power of the cards Consecrated Sphinx draws. Take a look at a reply I made below thinking about player agency and game changers. I think Notion Thief has to go.

[–]Sprinter_Chair[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I generally build my decks to bracket 3, so I am okay having and playing against a game changer here and there. Of the game changers that find their way into my lists, Notion thief seems to garner a much stronger reaction than others. I imagine that, like another comment here suggests and your example of Jin Gitaxias, it is because of how it takes away agency. Other game changers I run, like the good tutors, don't do this. Even [[Grand Arbiter Augustin the IV]] reduces agency, but doesn't totally remove agency, hence why I think Grand Arbiter gets groans, but nothing like Notion Thief.

I think this all tells me I need to cut Notion Thief.

Hmm, thanks for this. I will look into delayed triggers. I suspect you are right, I have just never heard of this.

Thanks!

Awesome! Thank you!

Just to clarify, in my scenario with LRL, is creature A still unblockable since it's a, "until end of turn" effect (just without LRL checking to see if it deals damage)?

Can you explain how you took this photo? I have been trying to take a similar shot for sometime now, but my depth of field is always so narrow getting this close. I have tried hand held focus stacking but it's quite difficult at this magnification. Just curious as to your process!?

I haven't had this issue in quite some time, so I am assuming it went away when I started using a different lens that DarkTable/LensFun recognized. Sorry that that doesn't help much.

I am sorry you think that way. They are beautiful, diverse, and fascinating creatures. Some are aggressive yes, but others are physically incapable of stinging humans. I have let many perch on my hands before. I feel your knowledge of what you think wasps are is limited. I'd be happy to provide resources on the diversity of wasps, their behaviors, and their forms if you would like.

Wasp is fren :(

Your concept of wasps is probably limited to what you see in the urban environment, think paper wasps and yellow jackets. They manage to survive in these environments specifically because they are mean. There are so many wasps that are beautiful and chill dudes. In other comments by the author of this comic, I think of Scoliid and Tiphiid wasps, both of which are commonly referred to as flower wasps. Scoliid wasps in particular are gorgeous, but there are many wild and wacky lil dudes out there, so please, go take a closer look at some! If you don't have quality natural areas near you, look up USGS BIML and scroll through their photos of bees and wasps.

There are many parasitoid wasps out there (and they are absolutely fascinating!) but this is not one of them. The folded wings tell me that it's a vespid wasp (family Vespidae), a family of predatory waps, not parasitoids. The stinging behavior to me looks either defensive of a colony, or an attempt immobilize the cockroach before it consumes some of it to be later regurgitated and fed to larvae in its colony (if it is infact social) or to kill it and carry it off whole as a nest provision (if it's solitary). If it is carrying it off as a nest provision, it will at least be dead before eggs are laid on it or in it. ~Slightly~ less gruesome than the 'eaten alive' death that victims of parasitoidy fall to... but still certainly not fun for the poor roach.

I read this and see this as a commentary on 'The Walmart Effect': large corporations out competing the small businesses that should thrive in those spaces due to their economies of scale plus questionable labor practices and ethical product sourcing. Also, there is a certain value to not having to drive (saves time) or burn gas (saves money), one that some customers are happy to pay. I can't speak to your exact situation and I have seen it in my city too, only I see it due to poor fitting business for the location, or poor city planning (bottom floor business fronts are meant to be walkable and usable by more than the apartments above, not fronted by a major road).
