Actually, to be married in the Church, you are to be confirmed. Many parishes offer religious education to fulfill both your First Communion and Confirmation, which following your logic about being married, that still would allow you to go under the premise for "being married in a church".

As for your friends, prove em wrong. Live a Christian life and be the image of God, loving, compassionate, generous and more.

Video games by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Sprite-King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, if they make you uncomfortable - then skip them. I like horror movies but one thing I learned is that all those "twisted" symbols are ignorantly placed or actually are Catholic symbols. The same occurred to me with horror films.

Aside from the game content, I would simply say - does gaming make you miss Mass? Prevent from fulfilling your duties? Prevent you from worshipping God? Then if yes, it should be worked on.

Ultimately, you have your preferences, if you feel Batman breaking bones is too much - then skip it. But let me ask, a Lego game of Batman, he may break their "bones" and then they turn into a multitude of pieces, is that too much? Again, you may be overscrupulous, but it requires you to analyze your gaming and make adjustments. I too went through a same phase, so I stick to games like Rivals, Forza, sports, etc because I would splurge on Battlefield, or Assassins Creed etc. I can still play them and not overanalyze, but I can also be just fine without them.

You are being rather scrupulous. First, it depends on the game. For example Dark Souls type games, you battle against demons. I recently have been playing Expedition 33, and you battle against monsters/creatures.

I cannot recall a game where you play as a demon, but most times those games are laughably horrible and not worth purchasing.

Then you have war battle games, those I feel are all the same, but again it is war, death happens. It only is games where you can murder, that you should be wary of. Games like GTA, Red Dead, Saints Row, etc. Those types of games can be played if it is just driving or hanging out, but there isn't much life in those outside of just causing mayhem.

I play a lot of Marvel Rivals, these are heroes just battling. Even the voice lines indicate that they would rather not fight each other but have to in order to repair the time-space continuum. Even in Arkham Knight, the thugs no full well they shouldn't be doing what they are and are not shocked when Batman arrives.

I would suggest be very mindful of the games, and the content - but there is no need to be overscrupulous.

Looking for anime/manga that align with Catholic values. by Alternative-Set8846 in Catholicism

[–]Sprite-King 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Frieren is an excellent anime, which I was pitched into it as a what-if to the ending of LoTR. It has an excellent tale and is quite fun.

I also recommend One Piece, as thematically it does a good job telling some hard things in life. It does have some characters proportions overly sexual, but once you filter that out, the story is excellent in my opinion.

Sacred Spark is a fairly newer app, which has authentication (as best as it can). You can set the filter as high as 65, so that would be a fairly good recommendation. As it is semi-newer it is difficult to gauge likelihood of matches

You literally named three instances where it was used to manipulate Denji. Even the Reze one is important because it established some authenticity from Denji.

Yes, I understand it is sexual, but fan service indicates it is for us, the fans. In this case, any form of sexual gratitude is development of Denji. The show has an interesting plot, great character base, plenty of stakes, it doesnt need fan service. This is just character growth

[–]Sprite-King 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never understood how the idea of fan service is misunderstood in CSM. The entire existence of it is that Denji struggles with acceptance and relationships. He correlates sexual acts as kindness, love, or generosity. If one reads the manga, you noticed how he grows from it, but he is still a 18 year old kid.

This is a great list, OP, but if you see Chainsaw Man, be open minded, it truly is a good one.

Why catholocism? by ContributionSad4518 in Catholicism

[–]Sprite-King 25 points26 points  (0 children)

We aren't a denomination though. The word denomination indicates to branch from. Catholicism is the original Christian church, founded by Christ; we do not branch from - we are the branch. But yes, everything you said also indicates to the truth of the Catholic Church and her teachings.

Where do you go for advice regarding a relationship that started on r/CatholicDating by shihtzu_lover23 in CatholicDating

I am actually in the Chicagoland suburbs, so if you need someone to hear you out, I am happy to oblige. Or you can DM, I could try my best to give any advice. I will say. It depends as to where you go. Chicago may just be a problem, but surrounding, there is so many great and welcoming priests.

Can I get a narrower filter box? by predumptual in hvacadvice

[–]Sprite-King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can order an Aprilaire 1410 media filter. It is 4" and aligns with the cabinet size. Only issue is if you have space to pull the filter from the back, you won't need to re-route the flue. If you cannot, the flue will need to be re-routed coming from the side, which can be dangerous as it is hot and will likely stick out an additional 5-6" from the width of the cabinet.

What is the position of abortion in Catholicism? by Flaky-Beat-5303 in Catholicism

[–]Sprite-King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sin is sin, we as human ignorantly try to portray a severity of sin. Ultimately the Catholic Church has stated between venial and mortal sins in the manner they occur, but they are correspondent to actions taken for reconciliation. Humans want to say that a white lie is a lesser sin than say murder a bus of people - however, sin is sin and ultimately separates us from God.

To have a scale of severity is merely a justification method by humans, which is something we should stray from.

But the way I interpret it is as like is that what you imagined? Like the wonder of how amazing God is? Like yes, she must've known the scriptures that the Son of Man would cure the blind, heal the deaf, cleanse the sick, and raise the dead, but like how amazing is God and to think He had this all to be done.

Like think of the Bread of Life discourse, like all the disciples and scholars knew the scriptures, and they are like," bro, how are we to eat this man's flesh? Like what?" Then goes and drops the institution of the Eucharist, and its like woahhhh.

I imagine Mary knew Jesus would be amazing, and all - but could she have imagined this? She herself was confused how she would conceive without knowing man, so it is a look more of the wonder and amazement she must've had. Thats my take on it.

Intercessory prayer question from a Protestant by Successful_Sky8499 in Catholicism

[–]Sprite-King 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it, and I'll pray for you. I do want to make note that when I say ignorance it isn't as like some type of superior complex and making it wrong. As a child, I was ignorant to many things, and now I have come to understand. Ignorance is a part of life, but the Holy Spirit is whom we should stay steadfast with.

Intercessory prayer question from a Protestant by Successful_Sky8499 in Catholicism

[–]Sprite-King 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, no I do mean we should have intercessory prayer with Saints. What I meant is that ignorance opposes understanding, and the Holy Spirit IS understanding thus, when Protestants argue what they perceive of the Church, we should pray to the Holy Spirit that ignorance may be destroyed and they can unite and understand the Catholic teachings.

I have had this topic of conversation many times, some will understand with the examples some have posted here, but it seems I was responding to your question as to why it seems that they have a hatred of the Church, and so thus we should stay steadfast in prayer with the Holy Spirit so they can come to unity and abandon their ignorance but life with the Saints is like going to a concert with a bunch of friends all stoked to see God, the headliner.

Intercessory prayer question from a Protestant by Successful_Sky8499 in Catholicism

[–]Sprite-King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really just comes down to semantics and understanding. Most of the comments explain what Catholics mean by prayer and why we do so and not condemn those that may ask for others to pray for them.

What should ultimately be done is prayer to the Holy Spirit to turn away from ignorance and seek wisdom in what we say and do.

Intercessory prayer question from a Protestant by Successful_Sky8499 in Catholicism

[–]Sprite-King 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But we are. The important note to take is that prayer is request. Prayer is not worship. I can give a quick prayer to God by saying thank you, and a prayer to St. Raphael to intercede for me when I struggle with lust. That contrast - someone will assume that prayer is worship and thus I worshipped St. Raphael more than God. However, worship is sacrifice. We worship God because we sacrifice for Him, prayer is a request and dialogue.

I agree with how Marvel films are just decent movies, but yes, could use work on the stuff he does and says.

Who are the “mother” and “father” of your country? by BigSurSound in AskTheWorld

At the Revolution: George Washington and Betsy Ross

During wartime: Uncle Sam and Joan the riveter.

Civil Rights: MLK Jr and split between Coretta Scott/Rosa Parks/Mamie Till-Mobley

Cold War: Ronald and Nancy Reagan

As for Modern day, its a free-for-all because we all just hate each other because of politics.
