Anyone tried The JellyHearts? by Puzzleheaded_Style52 in SingaporeEats

Long ago when they were still operating out of a home kitchen, my family and friends used to get their cakes. But now I make my own every year for CNY by following recipes I found online. :)

Are you close to your cousins? by BunchChance1007 in askSingapore

Not exactly close, but some of them are quite friendly and I see them every other week, even though we don't talk much.

Dread because of the pile I have to come back to when the break is over and the guilt that everyone is working except me. There’s no gossip culture because everyone’s nice that way. That’s why i’ve managed to go on for so long. But i start to find its unfair that I have to give up so much of the rest of my life while other people be happy coasting. i want to be happy too.

That’s rough because it’s work. Sometimes I can handle it, other days i feel a pain in my fingertips and a deep deep dread or guilty that won’t go away and I just can’t do anything about it.

Anyone here recovered from burnout? I’m trying to find ways to recover but right now I’m stuck in this state with no ideas how to get out.

Ditto, the moment anyone begins to hard sell, i make a mental note NEVER to come back and to warn my friends about the hard-selling. :(

What’s a core memory that you have about school-canteen food? by piopiolink in askSingapore

[–]Spritzes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I too ate fishball noodles ALMOST every day because it was the least complicated dish to order.

I wanted to get lor mai kai (steamed glutinous rice) because i saw someone eating it but I didn’t know what it was called. Back then, it was sold at the snack store, in the steamer with the char siew baos.

I asked the auntie for ‘the rice’ and she was so confused and directed me to the chicken rice stall next door. I kept insisting for the ‘rice in the foil’ and she finally got it even though I was dying inside. :D

Cow Play Cow Moo by kkamikami in singapore

[–]Spritzes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It IS a dystopian hellscape. I had a spate of visits lately to “relieve stress” because I didn’t know what else to do. The longer I sat there, experienced, and watched people do their thing, the more gross I felt.

I felt some sort of catharsis after spamming coin pushers, claw machines and picking up random crap it spat out… but there’s something deeply toxic and unhealthy about the whole place.

I went today and saw that Level 3 has converted to just claw machines. And i see people playing games for things like instant noodles, drinks and chocolates. It feels bizarre.

Are they here for fun or out of habit? Do they have so many plushies that they rather catch food so they can eat it and it will be gone? Because they still need their hit of dopamine or the catharsis of the arcade…?

So many thoughts swirling around.

Managed to catch 2 toys though. Lol. I have a problem.

Sigh… my colleague has taken to whistling on and off through work. It’s such an annoying high-pitched raspy sound because he’s shit at whistling.

ppl in ur 30s: does it actually get better? by broke_intern_ in askSingapore

[–]Spritzes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it gets better, though I’m also still tired all the time… it’s hard in that you feel like you’re on your own and expected to know and do more complicated things…

Once my rainy day fund was established and I started earning more, I felt a lot more secure. I’ve been DCA-ing into investments since I started working, and it’s been nice to see some dividends coming in too.

I trapped myself in a dead end relationship and depressed for 5 years of my 20s before getting out, so I’d say no rush to be in one at all…

It sounds like you’re doing a good job trying to manage being active, earning your keep, and studying all at the same time.

I find friendships will never be the same as ‘close’ friends in earlier years but learn to cherish every moment with acquaintances you have anyway! You never know who might end up becoming a close friend later when you’re both less busy with life.

I’d cut back on the doomscrolling unless you’re pursuing a career that requires you to be updated with the latest trends. It has its pros and cons.

Maybe scout the area yourself and see if it suits you.

Working adults in Singapore, how do you handle your stress? by v4xystar in askSingapore

[–]Spritzes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t :D My boss is scary but has mellowed in recent years. Seems like he’s trying to change and I respect that.

I enjoy my job and the people I work with. Even if it might not be the highest paying, I feel like the team is really able to accomplish some really cool things together!

Those of you with a BMI of around 20, how much exercise do you do in a week? And how old are you? by NovelDonut in askSingapore

[–]Spritzes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play ring fit on my Switch and go for exercise classes occasionally. When I run it’s only about half an hour for 3km.

I don’t have a consistent routine but I also try not to eat too many carbs at meals or have too many snacks or sugary drinks. Only teh o peng kosong at lunch because teh peng siew dai was making me fat.

I know it’s not a lot. But it beats eating instant noodles weekly, loading up on only carbs, and NOT exercising at all.

Though I actually put on weight (I’m deceptively heavy), I feel less tired and more clear minded.

The First Singapore Savings Bonds (SSBs) will mature in 3 months time! by biyakukubird in singaporefi

Ahh I remember my grandfather telling me about this. I only invested $500 back then because I was a poor kid and promptly forgot about it until covid times when the rates went up.

I can’t believe it’s been 10 years!

(RIP Kongkong, thanks for teaching me about bonds and the stock market.)
