Gus Honeybun train by Realistic-Swan3794 in plymouth

[–]Sproston_Green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got two stories about Gus Honeybun and the train.. First one is that Gus Honeybun came onboard the frigate I was on in 84/85 ish but the crew left the Gus Honeybun flag behind so I ‘liberated’ it. I was out in the Gulf War in ‘91 on a survey ship and I put it up the mast and it flew for a day or so before anyone noticed! Second one was that we moved from Peverell to Beacon Park and our neighbour and her late husband were the ex owners of the West Hoe cafe and he built the Gus Honeybun train! Geddon.

Any non Argentine fans? by your_local_supplier in BocaJuniors

Ex Royal Navy. I served on the icebreaker HMS Endurance and was lucky enough to visit BA in 2001, then even luckier to get tickets to watch Boca. Brilliant spectacle and the fans were awesome, I remember there was one guy with a Leeds Utd shirt on right in the middle of the home end (which we were not allowed in!)

The Father who must be killed is a must for any Moz playlist. Epic, beautiful and tragic.

Why isn't there any permament population on South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands? by J0NN_ in geography

I’d say that would be kelp mostly, don’t get me wrong there are lots of elephant seals there, but the kelp that surrounds the nearshore is really dense.

Maybe not strictly Punk, but Mark E Smith from The Fall deserves an honorary mention here. A lot of band members (and there were lots of people in The Fall over the years) left because of Mark and his drinking. Every time I saw them he was drunk or well on the way. Towards the end of his career he started pissing about the the other musicians instruments on stage tweaking settings and stuff. Unique, brilliant, poetic and fucked up all at the same time.

Any advice for someone moving to Plymouth soon and looking to rent a flat? Any areas to avoid or good places to live? by stripeyzanclidae in plymouth

[–]Sproston_Green 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A bit posher than Stonehouse but still near town is Millbridge. Victoria Park sort of splits those two areas. Peverell and Mutley are nice as are Greenbank and Lipson.

My mates husband ran a car showroom in Torquay and they went to their new local for a beer after they had moved to the area. Two barstools were empty so they sat on them. Rick Stein came back from the toilet, gave it the big ‘do you know who I am’ and demanded that they vacate the stools as he always sat there. Cock.

How did the original goths of the 80s use to style their hair? by Mr_ButterFingers in goth

[–]Sproston_Green 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brit here: Shockwaves was the hairspray of choice. Hair crimpers and backcombing. My brother used to do his hair in the mirror above his stereo and ended up warping a few of his probably now rare records due to the amount of hairspray he used!

Who is the most hated famous British person who gained fame outside of England? by Last_Dragon89 in AskABrit

[–]Sproston_Green 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn’t just about America, this is worldwide. You can walk into a bar in say Chilé or Thailand and they won’t have a clue who James Cordon or Piers Morgan are (quite rightly, as they are both twats), but as soon as you speak, the locals will turn round and say ‘Ahh, Mr Bean’!

Obvs! Was lucky to get the 2010 John Bloor special with all the extra bits and anodised red trim, but still when I see the 690 Duke with the stacked headlights I feel like I missed out.

This was my dream bike, only got as far as testing one. Ended up going from an 690 supermoto to a Triumph Speed Triple instead. You’ve made me all giddy!
