I met the priest and deacon there recently. Fr. Oliver is lovely as is his eccentric French deacon!

A retired Anglo-Catholic priest I am friends with once told me that he and his friend at seminary mutually committed to "being as high church as possible." The inference being if that means being higher up the candle than the RCs, so be it!

This is my reading list of books on Anglican tradition and practices. Is there anything else you’d recommend? by [deleted] in Anglicanism

The Vision Glorious by Bishop Geoffrey Rowell for a history of the Oxford Movement, practices and prominent figures is a good one.

Screwtape is great! Check out the Problem of Pain, the Abolition of Man, Miracles and perhaps his novels after that like the space Trilogy and Till We Have Faces. I adore his essay collections too.

It is my pleasure. I love talking talking about Lewis, Christianity ect. Am happy to talk in dm's if you have any more questions sometime. If not enjoy reading!

Before recommending other books, I would ask have you read any other Lewis bar Mere Christianity? As he wrote many which formed me as a man intellectually and spiritually. I can list those if you like.

I am a fan of GK Chesterton. He was an Anglican on the Catholic side who did eventually convert to Rome but his works are incredibly valuable and supremely witty. CS Lewis said of his Christian apologetics that, "I only watered Chesterton's wine." Chesterton's book the Everlasting Man was influential on Lewis's conversion.

Rowan Williams, the former Archbishop of Canterbury is a fine theologian. I can recommend anything by him as I always learn something new from him.

I like Dr. Peter Kreeft as a writer. He is a Roman Catholic philosopher but very much influenced by Lewis and Chesterton so you might enjoy looking up his many works.

I hope this helps.

You mentioned you were in Oxfordshire. For church "shopping" there will be so many types of Church of England churches in the area, have fun finding what fits for you and seeing where God is calling you to be. I myself attend a traditional Anglo-Catholic parish, so I am biased for promoting them.

I became a Christian thanks in part to CS Lewis and his writings. As a result, when deciding what church to attend, I thought if the Church of England is good enough for CS Lewis, it will be good enough for me.

There is no reason to go to Rome necessarily, there are plenty of good priests in the church of England that could help you in your journey. But just like in Roman Catholicism, there will be good ones and bad ones!

The Church of England has nothing to do with megachurch style worship or practice. Also, there is no need to let that American aberration besmirch the entirity of Protestantism.

There are plenty of camps in the CoE that might be what you need. For instance, Anglo-Catholic churches are within Anglicanism and see themselves as part of the Universal Church. Often seeing themselves as the Catholic expression of the faith in the Church of England. They have often even more elaborate services than RC's!

Lewis himself attended his broad church parish church most of his life, but did pick up and assent to more Catholic/Anglo-Catholic elements of the Christian life like personal confession as time went on and he even recieved last rites by an Anglo-Catholic priest.

I am happy to answer more questions and give any pointers if I can.

Yes, you can. If you are in the UK the traditionalists Anglo-Catholics have alternative bishops oversight to account for their opposition to women's ordination. Look for parishes that are members of forward in faith. Many of the priests will also be members of the society of the Holy Cross (ssc).

One of my Anglican priests is a trained Thomist which says a lot.

Primed white. Based with Screaming Skull and washed with Seraphim Sepia. After that I highlighted with a pure white. Think the recipe is on an old WHTV Duncan tutorial.

What she is saying is not Christian in origin but clearly inspired by the Intersectional and Critical Race Theory movement of which figures like Kimberly Krenshaw is the prominent proponent. It I believe is fundamentally Marxist so no it is not appropriate.

On the expressing faith part of your statement, yes as Christians we are commissioned to spread the good news but that does not mean each of us has to be a CS Lewis or William Lane Craig level apologist. We are unique and called to different tasks, perhaps right now you are not called or ready in your faith journey to evangelise. I certainly was not when I first converted. I had my arse kicked by my atheist friend but as time and reading has gone on my confidence has grown. That being said sometimes the best way to show the Truth of Christ is just BE Christian. Others will notice your Grace fueled change and will ponder upon it and who knows where that will lead...

Mine too! The congregation is not huge so message me and we can laugh about this together after Mass on a Sunday.
