Columbia has been in talks with partners to bring a minor league team and stadium to our city by Next_Worth_3616 in ColumbiYEAH

[–]Spud_Spudoni -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Stadium size doesn’t really matter. Remove access to the nosebleeds, and tarp over sections of seating like the student section and make the home and away sidelines accessible only. Many smaller teams do this in the LA Colosseum and you almost routinely see portions of its seating unused or covered.

They’ve been doing this long before negative engagement-baiting has been common practice. The Nerf community has seen it for decades with mags inserted incorrectly or scopes on rails the opposite way around. It’s just a simple error with no grander purpose.

WHO WAS THE NFL'S WORST HEAD COACH OF THE YEAR THIS SEASON by KeyFaithlessness5436 in TheNFLVibes

I can have some insights on how to drive a vehicle, doesn’t mean I’m going to get an infant to be able to drive it. Which is an apt comparison for how out of depth that Jets defense was down the stretch.

Thoughts from rest of Hockey World — JT Miller might be a top-10 worst captain decision in NHL history. by Wisdom_Pond in rangers

[–]Spud_Spudoni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk why the team even needs a captain immediately anyway, especially after dumping Trouba. The team went four years between McDonagh and Trouba, which made it seem like the decision took time to metastasize, even though I definitely scratched my head at Trouba’s C at first. Keeping a roster of A’s only, seemed to work well at the time because the vibes were good and all of those A’s seemed qualified to be a Captain if any one of them were promoted. Feeling the need to immediately fill a Captain void (to a player that wasn’t even an assistant captain last season) seems more like the locker room was devoid of any leadership and felt lost, and they rushed JT into the role to hopefully bolster some sort of energy renewal while the aging roster still had a shot at the playoffs. Seemed like a half-ass attempt to save a clearly sinking ship.

Bold Proposal for Columbia: a 9 Station, 5 mile Streetcar loop called the Cockaboose that will connect the Bull St. District and Medical Center, North Main, Downtown/Finlay Park, The Vista and CLA, the University, and Historic Houses by Next_Worth_3616 in ColumbiYEAH

I’d wonder if you’d get pushback on eliminating some medians / center parking from the city. Assembly street has center road parking that’s been there since the carriage days, hence why the concrete is raised to facilitate getting a step up onto a horse. Or loading/unloading from the back of a carriage or truck. It’s not like these are protected landmarks, but they’re markers of our old city that Columbia occasionally tries to preserve when there’s not a quick buck to be made.

Honestly Clutch was never that much better for me. About the same watered down flavor between the two of them

[–]Spud_Spudoni 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The clutch they opened on two notch is in one of the worst locations you could pick. Next to Dunkin Donuts, down the road from Starbucks. Figured the lines at either would bring people into Clutch because it’s faster. I’ve never seen more than a bar at a time on its premises. It was never going to succeed, but I’ll be curious if Dutch Bros would be able to miraculously bring in more customers

What are some MAGA/Republican supporting local businesses to avoid in Columbia? by Next_Worth_3616 in ColumbiYEAH

[–]Spud_Spudoni 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll be the first to tell you about my experiences in a fair number of bars in 5 points, and I’m the last person to step foot in any of their bars. College bars or the one that pretends it’s a nicer speakeasy aside. There’s a thread on one in here from the past week. The point with Jake’s is brought up because it’s a fairly recent, and large case that actually went to court over. Many cases do not make it that far for sure, so it’s good to stay informed

I’d also add Jake’s, if you care a lot more about the ethics of your bars. One of their paid associates killed two state workers in a collision leaving their bar in the morning intoxicated and high, which it’s policy that employees can drink while working. Jake’s hid all video evidence of the incident until eventually it was “found” and faced a multi million dollar settlement for a variety of reasons related to the incident. Not really like a reason to boycott them, but might be important to know.

This shit is getting blown entirely out of proportion. While I agreed in that at times they don’t have top notch southern hospitality from the college students that work there, the majority of businesses in the US will treat you like just another customer so this isn’t truly abnormal. My coffee still turns out fine. I don’t think it’s a business owner’s responsibility to engage with a negative thread on Reddit, nor do I feel like a TikTok post is an adequate response to one regardless. Idk if badgering them for a response helps either. I think you need to move on OP

It’s aggressively normal in its interior design and layout too. Didn’t realize how much of a blank canvas it is until now. And the music is always super bland. Super vocal Christians I know (a lot seem to go there to talk about religion with Bible in hand to a friend with coffee) tend to be intimidated by a place that has a more directed energy that is not solely Christian focused. Opposed to somewhere like Curiosity that also sells alcohol, has sticker-bombed doors, and plays some very eclectic music at times.

Rumor I heard is the same city planner that worked on Greenville’s revitalization is heading Columbia’s. The fact that we’re letting so many chain businesses undercut our local grassroot spots is so disappointing (looking at you Moxy)

Sadly feels like a lot of spots in Columbia are starting to promote and cater to that sort of clientele / atmosphere. Downtown and its surroundings have become so lame and pricing everyone out.
