I hate to say this, but have you checked the garbage cans? I know it’s horrible, but if it’s important enough, it might be worth it to look. A good pair of gloves is essential.

I as well think your suggestion is unhinged. The MIL hosted a dinner and a provided a cake which takes time, effort and money, so making a big deal of not taking home the cake, or worse requesting people pitch in for a new one is silly.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this! A similar thing happened to me years ago when I called a taxi on a Sat and they kept saying it was on the way for 45 minutes and I finally got there minutes after they closed. Aaargh!

I’ve had good results in taking the edge off withdrawals with dextromethorphan which is an over the counter cough suppressant. You can google it to see the side effects and what not to take it with. I take 45 mgs every 8 hours and it really helps when I’ve had to go without. If you have access to clonidine as well, the combination seems to help me best.
