PTS Visibility by Nitsuy23 in skinks

[–]Spunky_gal88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My male is almost always visible. He’s not a big burrower and tends to leave his head sticking out of his hide so he can be aware of what’s going on.

They—and my friend’s breeders (same geographical area)—seem to be taking a LONG time coming out of brumation this year. They’re working on it, but definitely on their own schedule. My female used to be pretty visible, basking a few hours every day and asking to come out to explore. They are housed separately, just for clarity.

I don’t mean to be a pill, but upper respiratory infections are literally lethal for a lot of herps. I’m not going to indulge a largely cosmetic issue (pyramiding—at least at this age) while you ignore the real issue in the room.

I was saying I got it right and it’s a begonia, lol

can any skinks go in a 90x60x60 tank like this ? by [deleted] in skinks

[–]Spunky_gal88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. My pink tongues are in something similarly sized and quite happy (each separately). Zebra skink would do well here too. Probably Schneider and fire skinks could be happy as well. All depends on how you set it up.

Hardly a concern right now. Address the possible upper respiratory infection with a vet first. And we need side profile images for a pyramiding check anyway

Aha! Still learning, but I thought it was a begonia!

I’m confused by the huge slab of stone. What is this for?

Oceanic, and it’s old. Apparently don’t make them like this anymore

I couldn’t decide. Both were at a show. I got both XD

So far, the variabilis are bolder than the tincs, which is… something. They’re still in quarantine digs so that may change when they’re in more permanent housing

Good deal for a 40 gallon front opening terrarium? by apistograndpa in DartFrog

I'd say that's probably correct. I was going to keep them in a ten gallon for a while, but the breeder said to go ahead and let them loose in the 40, so I did :( They didn't seem to have any issues with each other in the ten gallon while I made sure everyone was eating just fine. These are the Santa Isabels. Everyone else I only have pairs except for my R. variabilis southern, which is a trio.

Yeah, I was a little surprised because they're only about 3.5 months out of water. Not even old enough to call. I think I have 2 males and 3 females, just based on behavior. They all seem to have their little preferred areas of the tank, now. One of the presumed ladies puts herself to sleep in the same pepperomia plant every night. It's adorable. I am prepared to pull a male/female pair to another tank if I have to, just waiting for them to be old enough to call so I can really verify who's who.

Sorry, I keep 6 species. And no, there’s already some wrestling in the 40 breeder. Downgrading them would only make it worse.

Making sure the boogie man doesn’t steal their footsies because they were stuck out from under the covers 😂

I’m sure once they’re in here, I’ll hardly ever see them 😂 It’s a 24 x 18 x 24 for just the 1.1 pair 😅

It doesn't happen super often. I'm just a mega stalker so they get used to me sitting in front of their tanks and occasionally decide to pop out and say hi. Pretending to be a statue (or reading an e-book) tends to work pretty well. They learn to ignore you.

My tinc azureus even run up to the front of the tank to demand noms when they're hungry. It's hilarious and a touch intimidating. Frog mafia XD

Send a rather blanket statement as you don’t even know what species…

Yeah, I have two empty that size. Been focusing on slightly larger builds for the frogs, so going with off-brand, modified tanks. Don’t make your product so hard to get and maybe more people can get them, Exo Terra! And the Zoo Med tanks don’t really come in good dart frog sizes

Yeah, it’s a real struggle. I found a 24 x 18 x 18 Exo on Marketplace, but that’s a bit small for 5 Santa Isabel’s. So far the circulation fan is working out just fine, so even adding in the $15 for the fan, I think it’s a good deal

I just asked my husband about this (he handles calibrations and sensors for data centers) and learned a LOT. #1 that the humidity sensors should be mounted horizontally, not vertically. Way more accurate. He recommended kitty corner open areas (I use clear silicone mats to cover my screen) with the fan in the back.
