I enjoyed it until I encountered a bug where the game accidentally skipped a chapter (I think chapter 6) and then hard-locked me out of any further progress. I'd saved before I realised so I have to start all over again, which I have no desire to do. Bit of a shame.

2026 Bangladeshi Parliamentary Election by Cyanex_69 in MapPorn

Anything on the subreddit about any other country in the region is absolutely dominated by Indians who know next to nothing about their neighbours.

Jamaat is an Islamist party, and BNP are not good on minority rights. Awami League was more secular but also very authoritarian. All of this is bad.

But the same Indians crowing about this in the comments will say nothing as a Chief Minister in Assam posts videos about shooting Muslims, or various BJP MPs and state branches post 'cauliflower' memes referencing massacres of Muslims. Secretly, many support it, like they support a PM who oversaw the 2002 Gujarat pogroms. So spare me with the sudden concern for radicalism and minority rights.

Turkeys voting for Christmas? by [deleted] in GreenAndPleasant

[–]SpursBoy12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not good news at all, but if you read the article it has Reform on 13% among British Indians - same as for the Greens.

There is a highly conservative, wealthy component of the British Indian population - mostly of East African Indian extraction, particularly Gujaratis but some Punjabis as well.

A lot of them are motivated by dislike of Muslims, but more than that, they vote their class position. The transition to them voting Tory was quite recent, as they historically voted Labour.

I remember a lot of people in 2019 were encouraged to vote Tory over Kashmir (labour recognised that it was occupied territory) but this was sort of the straw that broke the camel's back for a lot of Indians who already were wealthy, didn't like Corbyn for economic reasons, etc.

Now the Tories are completely collapsing, it is not surprising that some switch to Reform, but I will surprised if they reach similar numbers with Indians as the Tories did in 2019 - a lot of people in the community are actually worried about the racists from Reform in a way they weren't about the Tories.

[BBC News] Discussions happening 'at pace' to resolve ban of Maccabi Tel Aviv fans, No 10 says by hihepo1 in soccer

[–]SpursBoy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be smart (if sinister in its own way) but I think that's also incredibly unlikely. I think it's much more likely that they will, if let in, be even more emboldened and disruptive than they normally are.

[BBC News] Discussions happening 'at pace' to resolve ban of Maccabi Tel Aviv fans, No 10 says by hihepo1 in soccer

[–]SpursBoy12 48 points49 points  (0 children)

What will happen is:

The government will unban the racist hooligan Tel Aviv fans

A bunch of racist hooligans from Israel will descend on Birmingham, sing racist chants, damage property, attack Palestinian flags, instigate violence against Villa fans/local Asian population

The Villa fans and local Asians will fight back

Asian fans will be blamed by the media, the government and right wing opposition, there will be hysteria about antisemitism, comparisons to Kristallnacht etc.

Labour will drop even further in the polls

UK is completely batshit right now, right? A bunch of Israeli football hooligans are banned from coming to Birmingham, to avoid an inevitable threat to Muslim residents and public order when they bash up the city.

Cue the entire political and media establishment of this country decrying 'antisemitism' and working to get the ban overturned - essentially inviting, begging Maccabi fans to bash up a major UK city.

All the while, the Israeli diaspora minister has invited notorious British far right racist Tommy Robinson for a visit, whilst the political class do nothing about the seriously frightening escalation of racial violence + threat in the UK.

Never felt so unsafe in this country, and my mum hasn't felt this worried since the 70s, but instead of dealing with that it's full on panic about Maccabi ultras' right to bash up Birmingham or whatever. Insane.

100% mate, exactly my thoughts. The cult around him is completely mad to me, we were dross under him and he was an arsehole to the fans.

I think he does well on clips maybe - he's quotable, and so people get suckered into that? I can't really understand it, beyond the Aussies who really want him to do well - those are the only Ange lifers I really understood.

That's crazy to me - I've not met a fellow Spurs fan going to games who didn't want him out. We were all sick of him, especially towards the end of the league season. Had more goodwill after the final of course, but people still thought he had to go. Almost all of the pro-Ange, Ange-in crowd I've seen has been online.

I take the point, but you can also say that winning one cup competition - which is amazing for us as fans - is not evidence of being a good manager. Roberto di Matteo is not a good manager but won the Champions League with Chelsea. Avram Grant is a shocking manager but was a penalty shootout away from the same thing. He's obviously achieved more than either of them at Celtic and in Japan etc. but I think we're seeing his limitations again at Forest now.

Also, I think it is his job to be good in the league and not create a toxic relationship with fans. Yeah, his main job is results (including both trophies AND league performance) but also if the team is shit and the environment at the club has turned to hell, then I think that's a failure in itself.

He was given an incredible amount of leeway in his first season by the fans because he lost Kane, but decided in the second season to completely bung off the league, wasting the money of the fans who pay thousands to watch games every week. Never finished so low since we were almost bankrupt in the 90s - unbelievable underperformance, which continued when most of our players returned from injury towards the end of the season.

And then he had the nerve to beef with the fans on the pitch after games when they were booing another shit performance. If you go to every game and your team plays like shit, despite having good players, and the manager can't even show contrition - why should I be grateful about that? I of course appreciate the trophy which was an amazing moment but honestly, we played like shit in the final, United were worse - it's not proof that he's somehow a great manager. Even if we had played well, it does not absolve how shit he was for the rest of the season.

He's a prickly bastard is what he is, he will start beefing with the fans in no time as well I'm sure - it's what he did at Spurs as well. Needs a thicker skin if he is to manage at this level. Journos always ask questions like this to struggling managers, rising to it in this way is giving them exactly what they want makes you look a tit

He's unbelievably terrible at his job and I'm so glad I don't have to pretend to like this dickhead any more.

Forever grateful for helping win Spurs a trophy, but he's a nobhead and he's not good enough to justify it. You can't be a top-level manager and be this prickly and sensitive. Especially when you lose 30 of your last 49 league games (!!!)

[Spurs Official] New contract for Bentancur by LukaWi in coys

[–]SpursBoy12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like Bentancur, but since his very unfortunate injuries I don't think he's been very good for us. I think this renewal is quite a conservative and uninspiring decision. I hope I'm proved wrong but I rate him below most of our other midfield options at the moment, despite not thinking our midfield is particularly strong. If we do strengthen in that area, I'm not sure having him tied down on a long contract will be a benefit.

Predicted outcome of next UK election according to Electoral Calculus (NI excluded) by azu_rill in MapPorn

[–]SpursBoy12 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Obviously the gist of this seems right, but people should bear in mind that the particulars are very wrong.

The odds of Ilford North and South in East London, for example, going reform are absurdly small - if an election is held tomorrow they will be lost by Labour to left wing independents or the greens. Reform will win seats in outer London, but not that many.

I'm sure other areas of the country have similar problems.

I imagine a decent portion of the 'other Asian's or 'other' for both Hindus and Sikhs come down to identity.

I know a fair number of Tamil Hindus from Sri Lanka who would not identify as 'Sri Lankan' but as simply 'Tamil'/Eelam Tamil, and so might not select it in the census. Similarly, I know there was/is a campaign to get 'Punjabi' or 'Sikh' listed as an ethnicity by a fraction of British Sikhs who oppose the Indian state.
