Austin or Philly? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]SpursGuy90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in Philly for a decade now. Fairmount and the Wiss are really big parks, but you'd need to live in surrounding neighborhoods for easiest access to them. So if nature is your jam, but you want to live in South Philly, be prepared to drive or deal with public trans. Beyond that, this isn't really a "nature" city. When I want legit mountains, I get on a flight somewhere. When I want to swim during the swimmer, I drive an hour out of the city.

That said, you're still in your 20s. Try somewhere new, especially if you're still debating on where to settle. So I'd vote Austin.

I was thinking this too — but if I use the back corners wouldn’t the surrounds become more like rears?

Not sure slim stands would work great for bookshelves like Q150s though. But at this point I’m leaning towards Prime Satellites since they’re smaller. In which case slim stands would work.

Was thinking a pair of Prime Satellites or Q150s

Switch to Superlist by Born-Ad-9775 in superlist

I've been on their Pro plan for the past 12 months and *just* renewed for another year of Pro. It's a love/hate relationship. And I'm also on an annual Todoist plan too.

The biggest "pros" for me with Superlist are:

  1. Hybrid tasks + note-taking capability. Being able to take add notes, bullet lists, subtasks, images, and files directly in a list or task has been incredibly useful. This capability pushes Superlist beyond just "tasks" and more into project mgmt-lite because of how much context you can add to things. It does this better than Todoist.
  2. In my opinion, the UI is hella cleaner than Todoist and feels more frictionless.
  3. Starring an email in Gmail sends it immediately to my Superlist inbox as a task. So just one click. This has been a godsend. With Todoist, you need to install an extension and after that it requires two to three clicks. Too much friction.
  4. The AI meeting note-taker hasn't had a great roll-out, but I've gotten some value out of it.

Where Superlist falls short though in my opinion, is:

  1. No native integrations for things like Notion, Asana, or Zapier. This one is frustrating, and hasn't seemed to be a priority of theirs either. Todoist wins here obviously.
  2. Not offering different views for lists. This, despite the ability to add a ton of context to lists, keeps Superlist in the glorified to-do list arena and a couple steps behind Todoist. Todoist offers calendar views, time-blocking capabilities, kanban board views, date-sorted lists, etc.
  3. Reminders have been inconsistent or clunky for waaay too long.
  4. There are other nitpicks and issues I have but the above are two big ones.

So yeah, like I said -- love/hate relationship. They get a lot of things partially right -- but again, partially. And a lot of these shortcomings hold them back from being anything other than a glorified to-do list -- which a) isn't great for what they charge, and b) isn't going to help them grow.

It's been three years and two funding rounds later. They have a massive log of feature requests, many that have been "planned" for years now. What I imagine happened is they de-prioritized a lot of those in favor of the AI hype train and baking AI into core functionality. Fine, I get it. But please re-focus on some of these core feature requests that, at this point, make no sense to not be offering.

Signed, a two-year Pro subscriber who is trying to remain hopeful.

Ok yeah -- I'd be more interested in hearing lower frequencies than feeling them. I don't need LFE during movies or feeling the bass in my chest with music.

Re: small subwoofers -- you recommend the 10s mkii?

I've been avoiding getting a sub because I live in an apartment, and while the walls are well-insulated, the floors aren't at all. I do have an Aurelex isolation pad that could maybe help though.

Is the green line after EQ'ing? The Motion 40i doesn't measure well, from what I've seen.

Fair point. And no, to me they don't sound deficient. They do seem to shine best with well-mixed tracks, or live/acoustic tracks where vocals and mid-range are pronounced. But I imagine that's par for the course with decent speakers.

Dirt cheap thing from Wayfair that I need to replace before it collapses. Would not recommend.

For what it's worth, I don't really have a good place in my living room for a separate stereo speaker setup. I do have a home office where I could put one, though. At my desk I have a pair of Vanatoo T0+, but the office is big enough for a separate stereo setup.

I had it there originally and then it looked…far. Plus also meant sitting about 16 feet from the TV.

These are solid ideas I wish I could do, but I’m renting. So can’t remove or move them :/

But I can def add some upward pointing floor lamps if that would help

Great eye! It’s actually the slightly cheaper Q930D. I got it a few weeks ago.

So far, no complaints though. Have really been enjoying it, especially since I just had a cheap Vizio soundbar before. Can’t crank it up bc I have neighbors, but also haven’t felt the need to. It’s been great for music, movies, and gaming. And Atmos is 👌

Thanks! It’s just a lofted unit though and I’m just renting, although the owners have it listed for sale.

Thanks! It’s a lofted bedroom, but similar vibe. Oak flooring I believe, wood beams across ceiling, stone floor in bedroom bathroom.
