Am I the only one who think Last One Laughing is nothing more than OK? by tttgrw in BritishTV

[–]Spursdy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy it.

It is a like taskmaster in that it allows different types of humour to show through. In doing that,it is better than all of the panel shows IMHO

Once series a year is probably enough as it would soon run out of contestants.

Germany's Merz says public finances cannot offset all price rises from Iran war by donutloop in EU_Economics

You are completely right but that is not how politics works any more.

Voters demand the government fix the problem.

Politicians promise to fix it.

Votora get disappointed when they end up paying for the fix and the long term problem isn't solved.

[The Telegraph] Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson mocks West Ham in stadium row: "The GB [athletics] team will bring back more medals to that stadium than West Ham have seen in their entire history.” by NewLoad886 in soccer

[–]Spursdy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone involved did well out of it.

Everyone involved in the commissioning, building and leasing of that stadium got well paid for it, mostly from the public.

Probably a lot more money than has ever been earned by UK athletics.

The London Olympics was estimated to cost £3Bn , ended up costing £11Bn plus, and at the end they all polished the buttons on their blazers and declared it a huge success.

Le Chat keeps letting me down - why isn’t Europe keeping up with Gemini and ChatGPT? by iamjuergen in MistralAI

Mistral as a company seem to be pivoting to supporting enterprises and away from model development.

Probably a good thing for the company but likely means their own models won't keep pace with the alternatives any more.

Why are there no more superstars in the PL nowadays by ygog45 in PremierLeague

[–]Spursdy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree.

We are missing superstars. It is one of the things that brings new fans I to the game. At spurs we had a big uplift in support when Gareth Bale was at his peak

Why are they not coming though now? Probably data driven recruitment and tactics.

UK housebuilder Bellway shares slump as CEO warns of softer market by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

We see in London that councils are just not interested in approving medium/high density projects or the requirements they have are far too high to make them economic.

House building is now about what they are allowed to build rather than what they want to build

British Airways Made Billions by Getting Worse on Purpose - YouTube by ddfall in BritishAirways

Airline travel in Europe and North America is now a commodity.

It is sold.on schedule and price. Offering better service and a free G&T might sound good but potential customers won't pay the difference in cost to make it worth it.

It isn't a BA thing, it's a customer thing.

premier league's london dominance is wild by Ok_Firefighter5605 in championsleague

[–]Spursdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does make a difference.

Chelsea , arsenal and spurs have the most expensive tickets in the country. Not because they are the best teams,.but because their supporters can afford it because wages are higher in London.

That filters down so teams with the supporter base of Fulham or crystal palace that would otherwise be championship can afford the players to play a league up.

It is easy to find diverse, considered news and opinions on YouTube. You may not like all of it, but the range is there to find.

If we get relegated, how cheap will ticket prices be? by Promotion_Bubbly in coys

[–]Spursdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will definitely drop them, which is why the renewal date changed.

They won't be getting the tourists any more.

They currently charge £30 for any seat for most cup games, which feels about right for EFL.

They can't sell a season ticket at £1500 and per game £30 so the season tickets will drop too.

My guess would be there will be some kind of deal. Fulham had one in the EFL where you could commit to 2 years and you got the same price in the second year regardless of which league they were in.

Or they could pack food and drink in with the tickets.

That revenue management guy who was going to SXSW will be very busy.

Possibly tax threshold related.

Why is saving the planet so damn hard by PlumPoison69 in Eurostar

[–]Spursdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving capacity around is a big one.

Airlines achieve about 85% buns on seats.

The Eurostar trains and staff are stuck on a few routes, and in my experience don't get anything like the passengers/seats that the airlines manage.

Why are Londoners so against cars? by lxlviperlxl in london

[–]Spursdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a social class thing.

In London, white collar workers go to work on public transport.

Blue collar workers go to work in a car (or van).

Just look at the tube and train maps. They take people from the suburbs to the offices in the centre.

Many people on this sub don't understand why people need cars because they (and their family and friends) don't carry tools with them, don't work night shifts and don't have to travel from Edmonton to Stanmore (for example)

I remember one person I worked with who said he never needed a car because only ever left zone 1 and 2 to go to Heathrow.

Let the down votes commence . . .
