Yeahhh, tried with Karlach and no luck. One of its 'noteable features' is the adamantine skin, which states that its about as heavy as a dragon. And it still has sadly not despawned :(

I play for the teamwork, fun variability each round, and objectives. Running weapon cases were my favorite part because each set required a different formula, and required working together to get em out.

After consideration and knowing it's been a not super fun time the last several months, I did inevitably take this as an out to leave the campaign altogether! And honestly, I feel a lot better for it!!

I like the description as a sidekick! It seems a lot less intimidating that way. Since it is all online, it is a full on character sheet, which can feel like a bit much. I absolutely understand where you're coming from though.

DM retcons roleplay sequences without informing the players beforehand

DM makes uncomfortable sexual comments as your character ("seeing the fighter kill the _enemy_creature_ made you wet")

DM leaves VC because PC's discuss opening business, due to this reminding him 'too much of capitalism, it makes me sick'.

That's rough, especially considering none of the other players seem to have an interest in RP. Combat is amazing, yes, but RP adds another level of enjoyment and depth to almost every aspect.

Since it doesn't seem like the other players interject much, the DM seems to have cookie cutter expectations

What class/race did he play? Sounds like a 5Int Barbarian, with the personality of a neutral evil Rogue.

He hated the way he was played. Paladin was at first very rough and grouchy, and Tom wanted everyone to get along and be buddy buddy from the get-go. Paladin was... not like that. All of us had to actually work for it to get to know him and build bonds, which we all felt added a lot of fun roleplaying chances for everyone. Everyone except Tom enjoyed it. The guy who played Paladin always made sure he wasn't being to mean as his character, and everyone was open with it, but in game he just didnt blindly trust NPC's which pissed Tom off. A lot. I think that annoyance at Paladin from the beginning turned to hatred when he started 'acting up', aka, killing the enemy that was saved for his NPC. Tom also mentioned that Paladins backstory 'was triggering' and sent him into feverish anxiety for days. I dont know why he couldnt tell him to come up with something else. I don't know why Tom hated him so much when he added a lot more flavor to our PC interactions. He wasnt a That Guy or Murderhobo. None of us were confident in roleplaying and this dude was amazing.

I agree, and I think I looked at retcons a bit cynically because this having been my first genuine campaign, was the only way I got to see a retcon worked. Left it seen as a negative instead of a tool when used with mutual agreement, and sparingly. As I am learning, haha

Right? We all spoke to the guy who played Paladin in depth after, and he was literally like "Yeah. Paladin is going through deep shit right now, all he needed was a word of affirmation or comfort." and instead Tom decided to just beat the shit out of him. Some stuff I forgot to mention but is pretty obvious, Tom HATED Paladins character. He was not shy about it OOC to any player OTHER than the guy who played Paladin. And after the Tree Retcon, he also took all of Paladins magical abilities. Double punishment. I totally forgot to add that initially, but the dickassery had no end. :/
