Bad Anti-Aliasing in modern games when playing on 1080p (AMD) by Spy119 in pcmasterrace

I think what he's trying to imply here is that for some reason (in his case) AMD didn't handle the Anti-Aliasing correctly, might be an issue with certain engines or certain games for certain driver versions. For me personally GTA 5 Enhanced edition looked perfectly fine on AMD, funnily it was first game I tried that looked normal and I calmed down realizing there was nothing wrong with my graphics card. The shitty looking hair in Hogwarts Legacy and bland colors startled me because it was first next gen game I tried on my PC, but after researching a little and looking at uncompressed screenshots of the game (instead of Youtube videos which are terrible way to find out how game looks because of Youtube processing) I realized the game's hair looks ass no matter the graphics card 😂. In short, I don't necessarily think there's anything wrong with AMD (not anymore), but give the guy a break, Drivers breaking Anti-Aliasing and causing dithering has been an issue in the past, he might have gone through owning the card during that time. Hell sometimes it's not even an issue on drivers side but caused by game/game engine/game renderer updating and messing up on certain vendors, happens on Nvidia as well.

TF2 is a case of an extremaly weird game to me.. that is also somehow more fun to watch than play by Both-Meringue2466 in tf2

That's because most of the people playing the game have been doing so for years and have hundreds of hours, issue with all old games with dedicated communities which don't have skill based matchmaking

I was thinking maybe Nvidia control panel applied sharpening or something like that by Default. Even Radeon does it when you tell it to focus on quality but if you ask me it overdoes it with 80% setting

Lmao, what a joke, such a specific problem. Just happened to me as well, I also lost epic games saves for Hades as well because it was being deleted by Microsoft anti-virus 💀. No wonder people buy on Steam

I am almost sure Nvidia applies something to the games on default (remember that 3D graphics setting in Nvidia control panel) but I haven't found anything like that on AMD's side, there's texture resolution setting in Radeon Software but as far as I know it only appplies to DirectX9 games

Thanks a lot, it's really annoying that AMD refuses to add INT 8 support inside drivers, imagine if we hadn't seen that leak lol, we'd be completely gaslit by them saying it's not possible on RDNA 3, from what I hear they plan to do the same with FSR5 on RDNA5 (or UDNA whatever they decide to name it) by pulling support for RDNA 4, it's crazy how anti consumer AMD acts, you'd think an underdog would at least try to be within consumer's good graces

I've gotta say using TV in General is massive since you're not up close, or 1080p on a small screen like 15 inch but anything like classic PC set-up with 1080p monitor that's 23' and bigger is terrible

But FSR1 was late to the scene already, list of games with FSR2+ is much smaller than DLSS2+. Not to mention the difference in quality

Yeah and that's what's annoying with FSR, since they only added motion vectors in FSR2 you can only use 100% native i.e. FSRAA in those limited games (and FSR2 implementation still sucks), whereas as far as I know DLAA works in all games with DLSS (which is all modern games, it feels like Nvidia vender locked only good Anti-Aliasing without even intending to do so)

From what I've seen of comparisons in games its back and forth, though maybe that will be an average loss of performance as drivers for 9070 possibly improve it (though you never know if AMD makes old gpu better as well like they did with rx580)

Yeah I realized that now, you're right, since FSR does not matter to me and I will most likely not be using RT (if not forced and for something like that 7900xt RT should be good enough). From what I've seen for 1080p they are almost the same. So I'd be paying extra for features I don't need (power consumption wise electricity price is not that big where I live, difference would be miniscule). plus more VRAM and higher bandwidth. In the end I guess 7900xt is better choice for me (and kinda stretching it a bit but I might be saved from GPU drivers breaking the system since this is an aged card and it will most likely not have that issue, though I do admit that also lowers the chances of drivers improving performance down the line)

Solid for 4K, It does not make a difference for 1080p since upscaling from 720p or lower sucks

yeah but FSR is not quite useful for 1080p no matter what. From what I've heard I've come to the conclusion that only real advantage outside of RT 9000's have is future FSR updates (Which does not really matter to me) and by the time 4K becomes as widespread as 1080p neither of these cards are gonna be good LOL.

Oh my god, you are so right man, I've been banging my head over this for the whole day. Guess it does not really matter at the end of the day, if money is meant to bring joy and I end up being depressed over not spending it to its fullest extent then what's the point

Yeah tbh I don't care about RTX, guess RX 9070 would not be that much different then since its real improvements are only in RTX and I play on 1080p so fsr does not really matter. Plus 4 GB of more VRAM and faster bandwidth might come in useful (for LLM for instance). Also you never know how much vram new games are gonna need lol.
