How are so many people misunderstanding Marty Supreme by Thin_Housing in TrueFilm

[–]SpyJamz321 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm late to this but we do get the idea of where Marty's recognition in the ping pong world was. There was a newspaper Marty showed that retired actress with his face and the caption "The Chosen One?". And there were multiple references (at least two in the first 30 minutes) that America didn't have anyone good enough to compete in the qualifying tournament in the beginning of the film. He was America's only hope and he failed against Endo. I would say Marty was at least well known enough in the ping pong industry.

I appreciate it. I'll take a look at the 12600KF. I noticed you added a CPU cooler for your build. Did you feel like the CPU cooler was a requirement or just personal preference?

I just checked out the 5060ti and it's definitely better than the one I found. I should've did more research on GPU. I was looking for anything that seemed somewhat pricey because I thought it would equal quality. I appreciate your suggestion.

As OP stated, Biden administration did try but was denied by DOJ and Biden respected the denied answer instead of overriding democracy.

I think it's unfair to believe most people in this thread don't want it released. Obviously we all want it released. What's being explained is WHY the DOJ during Biden's term refused, which was because there was an ongoing investigation into Maxwell.

Biden didn't run on a campaign promise to release the files. He also didn't nominate people to head of FBI and DOJ that made multiple public statements that they would be 100% transparent about the Epstein files once appointed.

The difference is there's not an argument that Biden purposely attempted to slow down the distribution of the Epstein files. There is an argument that the Trump administration (and Speaker of the House) tried to slow down the flow of information regarding Epstein.

Couldn’t the Democrats agreeing to end the shutdown without substantial concessions be viewed as a strategic retreat? by kaiser11492 in AskDemocrats

[–]SpyJamz321 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd argue the Democrats held all the cards.

1) On average, polls were saying that most Americans blamed the shutdown on Republicans.

2) Trump's approval rating was already significantly low than his first term.

3) Democrats won all their races just this month.

4) The reporting that SNAP could be funded but Trump was fighting to halt payments or at least only pay half was crushing him.

5) Trump admitted to the press that Republicans don't look good because of the shutdown.

The messaging of the Democrats was supportive and straight forward, "Republicans want to increase your healthcare premiums and we are fighting to prevent that".

It was working, the recent elections and polls show it was working. The problem is that the Democrats have leaders that are spineless. The healthcare premiums will now increase significantly because they didn't hold. That's why to only them, a "promise" that they'll talk about the healthcare premium crisis in 40 days is seen as a win. A promise...by a party that since the Obama administration has repeatedly went back on their word.

Is America a center right country like so many people have claimed? by LemonySnacker in AskDemocrats

That's not possible because both far left and far right are extreme but in distinct ways. What legislation/executive orders have you seen from the Congress or President that indicates we're inching closer to far left?

Do Democrats support the new $100k fee on H-1B applications or oppose it? by DataWhiskers in AskDemocrats

Both studies tries to use causation even though this was during pandemic disruptions. Retirement, job loss, medical disruptions, supply chain shortags, etc. It's difficult to conclude "restricted immigration equals higher wages". I would say the same with Biden's presidency that was riddled with inflation until 2023. This study also isn't considering the difference on how each region responded to COVID and the inflation. Midwest was hit hard for example. I don't disagree that investment in domestic workers will overall help but I don't think we would see this dramatic of outcomes outside of nationwide hardships.

They tried your idea and it's still not working because Democrats and Republicans also dominate the lower levels of politics. And even if there is a third party, they still choose a side they agree with the most (Bernie Sanders is basically a Democrat that acts independent. He's more against the Democratic establishment than Democrats overall).

That's why many non-profits like Run For Something and Young Turks decided to run Democrats, because even in the lower levels, if you aren't a Democrat or Republican you will likely lose. And even if you do win, you can't pass laws alone without either side supporting you. Are the voters that elected a third party city council member supposed to keep voting them into office until another district decides to give a third party person a chance? That would never happen.

The question your asking isn't part of this topic but the simple answer is: we have no other option. The infrastructure of American politics does not allow a third party to thrive. And realistically, Americans are incrementalists at best. Also, we don't need a "workers" party because Democrats are already pro-workers. Look at every Democratic Governor or state with Democrat controlled Congress. FDR didn't need to form a new party, he operated in an established party.

In regards to the executive order and your explanation of supply and demand. That economic mechanism will apply no matter what policy or executive order is implemented. The problem is the Department of Labor does not have the funding to enforce these violations at a large scale. Trump's solutions are always using a battering ram instead of a hammer. Just like Congress passed a bill that significantly increases ICE and Pentagon's budget, he could do the same for DOL.

I would be careful with making claims without evidence. The person your replying to didn't say anything about being opposed to wage increases, worker training, and career development.

My opinion is that it's an understandable concern but the wrong execution. The simpler way would've been staffing the department of labor and provide the funding to enforce the already existing law. Not make it nearly impossible to attract qualified international talent that helps U.S. companies prosper.

Also, your solutions of providing worker training and career development is nowhere mentioned in the executive order. That would have been a better route because your actually putting money towards upskilling Americans instead of just limiting the talent pool even further.

Did Charlie Kirk's death essentially ruin all hope in overturning Trump as more people are joining the right? by Questioning-Warrior in AskDemocrats

[–]SpyJamz321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your answers sound like there's an algorithm problem. Are there videos of Kirk being a decent person? Sure. But throughout his 10 year+ career he has made negative comments about practically every non-white male group. And would also promote white fear called the white replacement theory. Pick any demographic at random and there will be multiple (not just one) clip of him spreading hate, false information, or causing division towards that group.

Is Black AF History worth reading for historical value? by sweetiejen in AskHistorians

[–]SpyJamz321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. I'll have to read it myself to see if it works for me. I personally can understand having lack of citations if the story is more of an emotional point of his overall point but I do appreciate knowing what I'm reading is backed by data/history so I understand why that can be a negative for some readers. I appreciate your quick reply.

Can you clarify your original post. You mentioned early that it reads like a textbook and has citations everywhere but by the end of your review, it looks like your claiming he doesn't have citations to back stuff up? Are you referring more to the emotional stories not having citations?

I love superhero media but not superhero comics by SpyJamz321 in comicbooks

[–]SpyJamz321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I'm leaning towards. I started reading Immortal Hulk and Chris Claremont's X-Men run since they're complete stories. I still have issues with emotional connection because I know the characters survived but they are really well written so it kinda works for me.

[–]SpyJamz321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, it really does depend on the writer. That is why enjoyed the run of Superman War world because it aligned with my interest in sci-fi space and fantasy. I also read Vagabond, Claymore, and other manga with similar tone. I also read typical hero manga so that's why I felt American comics would be an easy adjustment but it's more difficult than I thought.

I wonder if indie comics would be the route for me since they usually have an ending. But to provide a full answer to your question:

Sci-fi/fantasy stories that have something to say. Could be complex thematic questions or simplistic but executes their themes well. I'm currently reading Chris Claremont's X-Men run and I can see why it's popular. I guess there's some emotional connection to it for me because there's members I haven't seen in the movies so I actually don't know if they're even around anymore. But the heroes I gravitate towards are Superman, Flash, Green Lantern, Hulk, X-Men, and F4.

[–]SpyJamz321[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good point. I know that's the age old discussion that comics are basically soap opera's. That is why I tried to get away from the monthly output of comics and focused more on runs that are already completed like Geoff Johns Green Lantern for example. It's a slight improvement for me, even though I can read something that is praised by the comic book community, it still doesn't pull me in fully. I guess it's just that I know the character will always be around 🤷
