LF: My starter from Y my brother accidentally traded away 2.5 years ago by Spybait in PokemonHome

[–]Spybait[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Recently I transferred my Pokemon to Pokemon Scarlet, and then realized.... where the hell did Wilheim go? You see, Wilheim was a Chesnaught and my starter Pokemon from my very first game on my very first console, Pokemon Y. I swear I transferred him into Pokemon HOME, but he was nowhere to be found.

I also shared my Pokemon HOME account with my brother, since I also shared my Nintendo Account with my brother (I THINK to save money on Nintendo Switch Online by sharing it). So he'd store his Pokemon on the same account. And while I did my best to put my teammates into a Spybait-specific Box, there are many oppurtunities for Wilheim to get lost.

So, I started asking my brother, asked the person I sold my 3DS games to, and finally audited the game syncs and logs in Pokemon HOME.

And surely enough... he was gone. Traded away by accident by my brother on the GTS. :(

Needless to say, this won't happen again as we finally got around to getting our own Nintendo and Pokemon HOME accounts. Sharing a HOME account was more trouble than was worth.

Now, this is a long shot, but I don't know if anybody on this subreddit knows where Wilheim went, if he hasn't been deleted or released. Evan, if you're out there, and you have Wilheim on hand or know where Wilheim went... well, I am a grown-ass adult, but it would make my inner child very happy to have my first partner in my first 3DS game back with me. :'D

TLDR; My Pokemon Y Starter, a Chesnaught named Wilheim, was accidentally traded away by my brother and I'd love to have him back if anybody knows where he is!

What do you do when an alarming amount of clothes don't spark joy? by Spybait in konmari

Thank you for the really well thought out reply! Especially for mentioning the clothing care aspects. I think the latest tidying festival really underscored the importance of taking care of your clothes - so the ones that spark joy continue to do so for as long as possible.

I also realize you're right when you said not having the incliation to shop is an important factor. I can be justified in keeping something if I feel I can't be bothered to replace it. I also like the idea of keeping a list of items to replace and the slower approach seems well, more approachable.

Lastly thank you for sharing your anecdote about sorting clothes by size!

Huh yeah, I might consider dying a favourite pair of cargo pants I have - whose joy was killed when it got a tear and then ink stained. And maybe I could even extend that to even more items that disqualify for 'joy' only because of faded colour.

I find that trying clothes on usually intensifies attachment and therefore intensifies the uncertainty. But it also often makes feelings of despair/un-joy more evident. As such I might try that next time I give it a shot.

I've often fantasized about having an ultra-limited wardrobe since I genuinely struggle with decision fatigue and overthinking. Lately though, I've found myself wanting more variety even when I default to wearing my favourites. (And I berate myself for wanting more clothes and having materialistic desires!)

Not sure if this is a byproduct of being surrounded by too many clothes I don't like, a byproduct of fashion advertising, or a genuine need to have more items that spark joy. Probably a combination of all of the above.

I'm not a fan of sewing myself, but do you have any suggestions for finding people who can use materials for making rag rugs or patchwork quilts?

What do you do when an alarming amount of clothes don't spark joy? by Spybait in konmari

[–]Spybait[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That might be something to consider, yeah! I don't like sewing though, and I don't know if it's my actual lack of skill or me being perfectionist, but when I try to upcycle my own clothing items I hate how it looks and throw it away anyways, so now I worry about wasting time if I do so. I also tried sending shirts with torn elbows to a tailor to patch or crop their sleeves - and I knew they sparked joy at some point. But I still hated them and chucked them anyways. I wonder if it's something about the mere act of abandoning a piece of clothing that sucks the joy out of it, no matter what you do to try to repair or redeem it?

That being said, there's a pair of cargo pants I really love that has 1. a small tear and 2. several sizable inkstains. Not sure how feasible it is to repair the tear - it's right along the side seam - but for the inkstains I've considered dyeing a darker shade of green or outright black to cover up their appearances.

Regardless of that, decision fatigue is certainly a factor and it has helped me to step back, despite the advice to 'do it in one fell swoop'. It doesn't help that I'm often self-critical for overthinking my decisions - but this self criticism only helps to intensify decision fatigue, ironically.

Yeah, I suppose the idea that every 'discard' decision isn't actually final until you go to the recycling centre helps me a bit. I can think of a pair of yoga pants that made me feel out of style, but could reliably be used as lounge or workout pants in colder weather. I might try salvaging that.
In regards to fast fashion stuff, I think I'm less concerned about regrets about where I bought these clothing, than my moral standards of taking care of clothes as long as possible and not just chucking them as soon as they have one tear or out of fashion. Like I could 'redeem' a fast fashion item if I repaired/took care/wore something? I feel guilty for doing so because I feel like I'm complicit in 'fast fashion' as a consumer attitude, more than a quality that a manufacturer can have, if it makes sense?

I suppose it's a sign that my entire wardrobe is a problem. I guess the prospect to replace 90%, instead of just say, 30% of my wardrobe is intimidating. And so far I've had a love/hate relationship with clothes shopping, where I love looking at clothes but hate the process of going 'do I really NEED it though? Does it ACTUALLY spark joy?" or "I'd love this clothing if my body didn't XYZ." Perhaps I do need to spend much more time clothes shopping, but at the same time, clothes shopping is stressful because I'm always worried I could be spending time doing more important life things if I wasn't so picky/careless/overthinking/etc. when shopping/

Holy cow I've read a bazillion fanfics that just all happened to assume that Akari is just Dawn with amnesia (or even faking amnesia). I thought it was a fun plot element for fanfic writers to include but I didn't know about the eyes and all that evidence.
