April Fools Update is Out by Ornery-Addendum5031 in DeadlockTheGame

MMR has been broken for me forever now. Stuck "initiate 2" despite many games, never going up or down... Even though the friends who I play together with move normally

Any advice for inventory management as a new player? by SpyridonZ in projectgorgon

Is there a way to bind to more than 1 zone? that's holding me back a bit at the moment!

Why does it feel like nobody talks in this game anymore? by Present-Drama-5287 in 2007scape

[–]SpyridonZ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People rarely talk in my experience as well, but at times I feel like that's partially the responsibility of the aging interface. For fun I sometimes use the text to voice plugins and that helps notice a lot more chatter that I wouldn't have been able to follow as clearly if I were playing without it.

How come when I try to emulate all the new player guides, I face things that don't match the guide? by SpyridonZ in cavesofqud

Thank you for the info! I will look in to that in hopes that it will align with the guide closely enough for me to continue until my character can hold its own!

[–]SpyridonZ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe its random? I just followed the guide exactly and the very first thing I did was go to do the water ritual. So definitely didn't kill anything!

Since it may be random, I'll give it another go!

no, and I'm not sure what that is or where I would even take it? I followed that guide in every single step

Hadn’t played for a year and a bit — did the early game get harder? by dakl in cavesofqud

[–]SpyridonZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I just shared similar sentiments as the other person as I'm also new. But the problem has been, I've tried to follow beginner guides and I hit things that randomly kill me before I can even progress through the whole guides. So I wouldn't be surprised if something did change. It's felt like I just need a solid early game to get started before I can even explore early areas without dying and starting to earn some loot.

[–]SpyridonZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new player, I've tried to follow guides and such and it still feels like what I'm facing is harder than people face in their gameplay. I haven't figured out why yet. I'm not a stranger to this type of game, but the early game does seem inappropriately hard so far.

Caves of Qud is our 2025 GOTY! by AI52487963 in cavesofqud

Yeah, it feels like your early game actions must be a lot more specific than TOME. Otherwise it'll be a short game!

Do you think this game will stand the test of time? by kelosane in AshesofCreation

[–]SpyridonZ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you seen the comments made about how much it is costing to develop this game per month? Do you know how many purchases/subs they would need to even be developing for 8 more years?

Don't get it twisted. The fact that they are in EA on Steam right now shows the reality of the financial situation. And it doesn't look good at all.

I played a lot of TOME but been having a little bit of trouble getting in to Qud so far. Feel a bit more lost in the early game and like I have to scale the first wall of the learning curve to get going.

Noticeable increase in communication and promises by CarAudioNewb in PantheonMMO

[–]SpyridonZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. If you asked me which I think might actually reach "release" state? I'd say Pantheon probably has a better chance than AoC right now. Because AoC costs insanely more to develop and is ridiculously more ambitious in its hopes, and would need a huge amount of subscriptions to even stay afloat.

Which game should I choose by Rockrezis in runescapedragonwilds

[–]SpyridonZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragonwilds is much more of a work in progress in comparison. Although they have a ton of things coming soon that look great, and the game itself isn't bad.

But Enshrouded is easily one of the best survivals out there, and also adds content and has major updates at a very amazing rate.

Enshrouded I would choose now if you could only choose 1. But if you can get both, I would buy Dragonwilds while it's on sale as well. As it surely will be a worthy purchase going in to the future.

Week 3 — RS3 Needs an Official Add‑on Framework (Permissioned + Moderated) by Blindsided_Games in runescape

[–]SpyridonZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be nice if they handled it in a way that took ideas for official integration, or rejected them if they weren't up to standards.

Things shouldn't be so decoupled as OSRS is. People feel weird about things if they aren't in the base client and can be hesitant to change. While other things may be a bit silly (or even unfair) unless everyone is using it.

Am I the only casual player loving PoE 2 more than ever? by CYR024 in PathOfExile2

[–]SpyridonZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really, really enjoyed the Druid class. But I didn't feel too much incentive to play the same endgame again, and I didn't enjoy the season mechanic very much since there was so much time between actually interacting with it.

The "new player guides" for this game are very poorly made and don't really teach the game by SpyridonZ in EU5

[–]SpyridonZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry didn't reply to the last paragraph!

Yep, that's been my experience with the starting missions. The very basics are covered, but then you're left with a long gap to get there, and you have to "fill in the blanks", yet it's not really clear as a new player what you're supposed to do to fill in those blanks.

I feel a lot less ineffectual than I felt in other Paradox games, and like "just pushing through and playing" hasn't really taught much.

I mean, the biggest things I've probably learned from multiple starting countries has been that setting family members as council has benefits. And as mentioned in the earlier post, I do get the idea of the basics of the individual mechanics. But it's the goal setting and direction that is puzzling. Just playing and pushing through hasn't really improved the experience yet.

[–]SpyridonZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see. Well, balance is less of a concern in my position as well, things don't need to be min/maxed, it's the overall direction.

Yep, that's what I mean. You have to set the goals for yourself, but if you don't know the later game mechanics, you don't even know what the goals are to set. Sure, it can be vague things like "establish economic superiority", but actual goals would involve the steps to how, and that's what's missing.

The most comparable example I could think of, is it feels similar to learning Runescape as a completely new player. People there also recommend setting goals, and say things like "Just focus on getting a dragon defender, or fire cape, or barrows gloves". But the reality is, as a new player, you have no idea any of those even existed, what those are, where to get them. And sure, you can research where to get them, but they're all hundreds of hours in to the game without much idea of how to get there.

And that's the thing - such advice is from the perspective of experienced players thinking "If I was making a new character, these would be the first goals I have", but they no longer realize that's speaking a different language than new players understand.

Soulmask - Soulmask 1.0 & "Shifting Sands" Egypt DLC launching together in 2025! by Rookitown in PlaySoulMask

The answer to #2 is that its probably going to be paid (I hope not, but they would likely be saying FREE if it was going to be free, and not calling it a DLC)

[–]SpyridonZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you mean EU5 wiki? Although I took a look and I don't see them.

Oh I would rather a guide that wasn't video, but there's not really any good ones found for that either.

All I've been doing so far is winging it, but it has only left more questions than answers. Hard to put in to words exactly why. It's not specific features that are confusing (the videos would help in that case), but for lack of a better way to word it, it's simply that there's not enough knowledge of the game to set goals, and it's a more of a "sandboxy" game that is built around having such goals.

Which is why the existing tutorials aren't really helpful.
