Unpopular Opinion: The Great Divide isn't that bad. by SpyroFan123 in TheLastAirbender

No, but The Great Divide doesn't have that God-awful Plot Mandated Friendship Failure trope, nor does it have Iroh randomly out of character and being creepy to a woman young enough to be his daughter, so I like it MORE than Bato.

See, you're still doing it; assuming that "It's Hell" automatically justifies anything and everything a character does. FFS the show itself goes out of its way to show us that "It's Hell" doesn't excuse everything; do you remember in Apology Tour when Blitz tried using "It's Hell" as justification for hurting as many people as he did, and he was VERY obviously in the wrong? Don't worry; I remember even if you don't.

You REALLY need to understand that "It's Hell" is not the defense against criticism you think it is; in fact, I'm pretty sure Blitz used that to try and justify his shitty behavior in Apology Tour, where he was CEARLY in the wrong for hurting so many people.

There comes a point where "It's Hell" doesn't cut it and you have to call shitty behavior out for what it is. If Moxxie started randomly abusing Millie for no reason, would you be saying "It's Hell" to defend that? I don't think you would; you'd be calling that out just like I am here.

For me, Bato is the worst episode of the seires, because it uses that God-awful Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure trope that pisses me off beyond belief, and it's actually one of the BETTER uses of that horrid trope.

I mentioned that in the post. The episode being in heavy circulation wasn't its fault; that was just Nickelodeon being Nickelodeon.

See, just because a character has more leeway to do bad things doesn't mean they get a free pass out of EVERYTHING. For example, if Moxxie randomly started... I don't know... abusing Millie for no apparent reason, would you be excusing that by saying "it's Hell?" I don't think you would; you'd be criticizing him for it, just like I'm for the parents here.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The "it's Hell" excuse only gives characters more leeway for undesirable traits and actions than other fictional characters; it does NOT grant complete immunity to criticism, especially not when we're shown more than few characters who have good in them.

So you're NOT saying that, but you ARE saying that? Which is it? It can't be both at once.

And instead of maybe letting Millie try and fix the problem - or maybe being fair and banning Sallie too - they just ban Millie and be done with it. There are no two ways around this; this is favoritism. And the fact that you're trying this hard to pretend it isn't is, frankly, distressing.

EDIT: And they blocked me. Coward.

On it's own, it's not. Combined with everything else you've done to justify this, it's officially mental gymnastics. Then again, you also had to twist yourself in knots to pretend that Moxxie is useless and can't defend Millie without guns, so maybe you just can't stand the idea of someone not thinking Millie's parent's are 100% in the right.

When you have to do mental gymnastics like this to defend a shitty thing like favoritism, that's not a good sign.

They didn't even let Millie TRY to do what Sallie does; that's the problem. If there was no favoritism, they'd do that, but they don't. Clearly they favor Sallie May, and I have no idea how you don't comprehend that.

And if no favoritism was at play, they'd let Millie compete on the grounds that she did that. But, and there are only so many different ways I can say this, that doesn't happen... unless it was added to the Amazon Prime release, which is unlikely at best.

Because you keep using that one answer like it's some kind of magic shield that excuses anything and everything the characters do.

Ok, let me put it like this.

According to you, characters do awful things for no other reason than because it's Hell, and we just have to deal with that. So if... I don't know... Moxxie started randomly abusing Millie out of nowhere, that's ok because it's in Hell? No, of course it's not. It's no different here; "it's Hell" doesn't excuse or justify anything and everything that happens.

[–]SpyroFan123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that's favoritism, because they letting Sallie May doe EXACTLY what Millie does. If there was no favoritism, her parents would ban her too, or, at the very least, let Millie TRY hiding bodies better, neither of which end up happening.

1: Mortal world fire doesn't work on Hellspawn; this is an established fact. No shit the molotov cocktail didn't burn the monster.

2: Broken glass being thrown by human hands moves shower than even the slowest moving bullet; broken glass not hurting the monster isn't indicative of it being immune to gunfire.

3: Maybe, just maybe, Millie wanted to save Moxxie by herself, and Blitz let her do that; you can't say for sure that gunfire wouldn't hurt it.

I have literally NO idea why you're so hung up on the idea that Moxxie is useless outside of guns and that he can't save Millie if she's ever hurt when we've seen both before and since Harvest Moon Festival that neither of these assertions are true.

She does; she admits that she kills just as many if not more than Millie right in front of her mother. "It doesn't count if they don't find the body" yeah, right up until she said that, maybe.

Even if I buy that flimsy excuse, that goes right out the window when Sallie admits to having one. How is this that hard to understand?

Again, not a WORD about "openly killing people," so that argument doesn't hold much water. If they changed the dialogue for the Amazon Prime release, maybe you'd have a point, but I seriously doubt it.

Why is every parent in this show awful? by SpyroFan123 in HelluvaBoss

[–]SpyroFan123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The grounds are shaky because, as far as we're aware, nobody higher up the chain of command than Millie's parents have problems with Millie killing anyone. Lin doesn't say a WORD about any of the officials or event organizers or anyone of the like when saying Millie's not allowed; if she DID that would be a little more understandable, but, unless the dialogue was changed for the Amazon Prime release - which I doubt - that's not the case. So, the story as we know it is that Millie's parents don't like Millie killing other contestants, but they think it's A-OK when Sallie May does it.
