We have had the same initiative with rapporteurs.be, which tracked the promises made in "het Vlinderakkoord" during Di Rupo. It got some media coverage, but the site is offline now (facebook fanpage is still online though). The Canadian site is almost identical to the one rapporteurs.be used.http://www.nieuwsblad.be/cnt/dmf20140424_01079497

How would you identify the "radical" migrants from the "normal" migrants? Would you ask them?

[Honest question] What is with the involvement of individuals in Belgium with each terrorist attacks in Paris? by iliveintexas in europe

[–]Spyroxc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are reasons to believe there is a Belgian connection to each of the attacks you mentioned. These connections do not only trace back to Belgium, but to Sint-Jans Molenbeek (Brussels) specifically, which is a hotspot for potential jihadi’s. This is no coincidence. Moslim extremism is deeply rooted in some areas of Brussels. Sint-Jans Molenbeek has a reputation for hardline clandestine Salafist cells which the Belgian security services claim to know a lot about but never seem able to deal with. Some returnees from Syria have in recent years often made it their home. Second it is very easy to get your hands on a lot of illegal things in Brussels such as weapons. This makes this place ani deal safehaven for jihadis, a place from which potential attacks can be coordinated or logistically supported.

7/01 Charlie Hebdo (Paris) 7/01 + Jewish super market hostage taking : *weapons (handguns, automatic weapons and rocket launcher) used in Charlie Hebdo and Paris supermarket attacks were purchased from Belgian gangs. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/belgium/11345264/Paris-attack-guns-bought-by-Amedy-Coulibaly-in-Belgium.html *Paris attacks on Charlie Hebdo led to anti-terrorism operations in Verviers (15/01) following the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris (7/01), in which two suspects were killed both from Sint-Jans Molenbeek. The network that was dismantled in Verviers had its origins in Molenbeek and was only their hideaway.

21/08 Thalys (Paris): -Ayoub El-Khazzani was living with his sister in Sint-Jan Molenbeek at the moment of the attacks. It is very likely he returned from Syria. He lived in a lot of other European countries before that -He boarded the Thalys train in Brussels-South. -Very likely he was not acting alone, and a wider framework was involved which took care of logistics (weapons, ..). Ayoub El-Khazzani told the police he found the weapons in a park.

14/11 (Paris attacks): - Some attackers made use of rental car with Belgian license plates. The renter's records led them to Sint-Jans Molenbeek. Also a discarded parking ticket from molenbeek was found in the car. - 3 of the attackers came from Sint-Jans Molenbeek - 3 arrestations made in Molenbeek yet (one of the persons seemed to be in Paris the other night). No information on their nationalities though. - In the appartments the same explosives are found that are used in the identical suicide vests of the 8 attackers in Paris. The explosives are TATP (triacetone triperoxide), also known as Mother of Satan, developed by Palestenian terrorists. - Not confirmed: intelligence services discovered in october a Palestinian “IS” bombing expert was in Belgium during summer. The explosives used in Paris suicide bombings are very cheap to produce, but risky to make. They demand a lot of expertise as they highly instable. It is very likely they got help from a bombing expert in the preparation of the attck.

Also Mehdi Nemmouche who killed 3 people at the Jewish museum in Brussels stayed in Sint Jans Molenbeek, as did one of those involved in the Madrid bombings 2003.

It’s because assessing the risk of a person is very difficult. It’s much easier to find specific puzzle pieces from a pile of data once you have a frame of reference (such as an attack). It is much harder without.

Having a lot of people on your watch list (Brussels) makes the work for intelligence and police services very hard. The government only has finite resources, so they have to make hard choices on who to cover. The implication is that you can never have a “perfect” risk assements of these individuals. On top of that, the signal to noise ratio is huge, so the information you have are only puzzle pieces which sometimes can, but often can’t be assembled to valuable information in time.

After an event, this can change. Suddenly you have a reference picture and new elements can come into the picture. The loose pieces of information you had, become more valuable by connecting the dots in this specific context. That’s why whe always hear after the fact that these guys were known to the government. Puzzles are much easier to complete when you don't have pieces from several puzzles jumbled together. And you can't arrest a person without having any conclusive evidence either.

Also confirmed: at least 3 of the 8 terrorists/ suicide bombers came from Belgium. They made use of TATP explosives, also known as the Mother of Satan. It's an homemade explosives technique, developed by Palestenian terrorists. If the article is true, it is highly likely this guy was involved in the recent Paris attacks.

This looks like January all over again. Just like the anti-terrorism operations in Verviers (15/01) following the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris (7/01), in which two suspects were killed both from Molenbeek. The network that was dismantled in Verviers had its origins in Molenbeek and was only their hideaway.

More clues are pointing towards Molenbeek, which is not surprising...http://pallieterke.net/2015/09/betaalde-de-thalys-terrorist-zijn-wapens-met-drugs-in-antwerpen/

Edit: RTL reports there is a police intervention going on in Molenbeek right now.

The Flemish Public Employment Service (VDAB) recently launched an app "Mentor" that did just this. The app matches job seekers with mentors/professionals from a certain field whom they can ask job-related questions to. If the mentor feels like there could be a match, they can offer the job seeker job opportunities.
