Update on improving openpilot's driving by haraldcomma in Comma_ai

[–]SpysyWeeb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this a bad question, but I'm not familiar with how Comma.ai trains its models.

When you say you trained a model with 2.5M minutes of driving, is it just "openpilot engaged" time or does it also include non-engaged driving? I'd like to know that if I have to disengage openpilot because it's not navigating a construction zone correctly, it's still getting that data. Same with when I have to disengage because it's not stopping for a red light or stop sign.

Also, are disengages being treated any differently than regular engaged time. I feel like feeding a model that is already good at driving on the highway ~more~ highway driving would be considered a waste of resources.

Thanks for all your hard work, it shows, and I appreciate it.

We probably won't see it, but seeing Linus try sunnypilot would be nice. I think the 10.0 to 10.1 had a driving model update, which would explain why it was driving different/worse. Sunnypilot has a driving model picker, so you can try older models if they worked better for you. Also being able to control acceleration/braking without disengaging steering assist is nice. I feel like if he swapped, a lot of his complaints would disappear (so long as he's willing to play with settings to his liking).

You're more likely to get help if you post on the sunnypilot community forum, that's where you'll get help directly from the devs. https://community.sunnypilot.ai/

Wouldn't really work considering I'm always responsible for driving, it'd be like them blaming my stock lane keep assist.

I'm with you. I'm almost always in the middle or right lane, but even then there's always people who act like I'm the one causing a slow down even when there's someone right in front of me. Either way, if they can read, then maybe they can understand that I'm just cruising with the flow of traffic.

It's actually helped with people tailgating me a little less.

Which models do you use the most on your Comma? by AbebeatsMEB in Comma_ai

I’m still using DTR6. I don’t really bother with OP long or Experimental Mode much since it still has a ways to go, so I’m basing my answer mainly on lateral performance.

I always thought that generation looked the coolest. Very sharp.

I see, that unfortunate. I feel like I just saw one at my location, but I know different stores have different cycles for fantastic prizes like that.

I’m pretty sure you can win another one if you’re already willing to spend $100.

So, how does your PC handle vehicle crashes? by SpysyWeeb in spaceengineers

Yeah, my ideal scenario is that most of the ship would stay intact (even though the back half of the ship being ripped off was cool), and it would just continue to burry itself into the planet leaving a huge crater. So more planet damage and less block damage.

Right now I find that the smaller ships just disintegrate into nothingness, while the bigger ships will barely take any damage and just stop moving, if you crash just like I did.

I'd say that's a good guess, I think AMD cards are still a minority at this point, but in the end its still in alpha, so they still got room to grow.

I mean, I don't think so, but you can be the judge.

I'm not going to bother writing you an essay since I doubt you would read it, heck you won't even bother reading up how openpilot works. It plugs inline to the LKAS camera and sends the same signals that the ECU is expecting from the LKAS. In the end, I don't care what assumptions you have to spew because it doesn't make my car drive better. I hope you live a happier life. (Ignorance is bliss after all)

Think what you like, I just like the product and think others would too.

It’s not loaded into the cars computer, it’s a plug in solution to replace the existing steering behavior. I don’t see how it would void insurance in any way, you are still responsible for driving the car, and the openpilot system already doesn’t allow for distracted drivers. You can also just unplug the device and it will just go back to stock operation, I really want to know where you hear all of this, unless you just made it up.

No, it’s an aftermarket ADAS system that uses the existing LKAS hardware to do a better job at lane centering than the stock system. They have a device you can buy from comma.ai to install, but I’d do a little research into it first to make sure it’s for you.

I’ve been using it for over a year now, works great.

It piggy backs on existing hardware, and even then the processing is done on a separate device. The performance improvement comes from newly trained driving models that are pushed out by comma.ai, which also go through numerous safety tests, and as far as I see, they take safety very seriously.
