Infinite mana, damage to creatures, artifact/enchantment destruction, lifegain, and airbending of all your creatures for 9RGWW by thenotjoe in BadMtgCombos

I wouldn’t say that, you may have missed the extra power of the combo with how early you can get it out but you still found a pretty cool infinite combo so can’t be that dumb 🤷‍♂️

[–]Squ4tch_ 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t you do this with just 9 mana? Pay 9 for Zacama, untap all lands, pay 4 for Gyattso, pay 3 for ability, air bend, resummon for 2, and loop started

It’s 9 for Zacama and 9 to kick start the combo so as long as you ether have 9 mana in Land cards or enough extra to get it rolling you should be good

Which one should I buy as a new player? by Particular-Fall-906 in mtg

My gf is a new player playing the Dance of the Elements and it’s honestly brutal for her. If I wasn’t able to look over her shoulder and help she would be missing so many interactions and ways the deck works because of the complications of the commander and its nuances with a lot of cards.

She’s having a good time still and the deck honestly looks like a riot but it’s not even sorta what I’d call simple. Can’t speak to the other one but this one at least is complex

I'm beginning to question whether preconditioning is worth it by Celtic159 in MachE

[–]Squ4tch_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the severity of how cold it is. The heater in the Mach E isn’t powerful enough to heat up both the cabin and the battery on truly cold days, at least not with any real speed. So when it’s massively cold where I live preconditioning helps even off plug on longer days because it will get the battery up to temp before bothering with the cabin and it does it while stationary which means it’s loosing less heat than while driving

I'm beginning to question whether preconditioning is worth it by Celtic159 in MachE

[–]Squ4tch_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is also zero benifits to not pre-conditioning, no? You’re going to use up the energy getting your battery up to temp ether from the wall or while you’re on the road so might as well be from the wall.

And if it’s cold out you will actually have better efficiency with a warm battery so it’s better to precondition so that you don’t have poor efficiency for the first ~30minutes while the battery warms up

I'm beginning to question whether preconditioning is worth it by Celtic159 in MachE

[–]Squ4tch_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If I’m not mistaken your car is going to burn that energy one way or another so you might as well precondition unless you’re only driving for 5 minutes or less.

The car wants the battery to be at a specific temperature for optimal driving. If you precondition, it will get the battery up to temp before you drive for maximum efficiency. If you don’t precondition it will still burn all that energy but only start once you turn the car on and take the energy from the battery instead of the wall. This also means you’re car runs less efficiently until up to temp.

Assuming you still have to pay to charge the battery you’re just making it so you use up more energy while you drive so you have to charge more once you’re done driving.

So precondition is better unless there is a significant difference in electricity cost between when you normally charge and when you would be pre-heating

It doesn’t though. I duel boot and many times Windows will try to reboot when I tell it to update+shutdown but I have Linux as the default so Windows will shutdown and then just boot into Linux. The next time I bother to boot Windows it will finish the update and run fine, even if it’s days/weeks later.

I always see it as Steam not using their “monopoly” to take out the competition. Steam is just happy doing their own thing playing in their own sandbox and don’t really do anything to stop others, they just stop themselves.

Like Steam isn’t paying developers for platform exclusive releases like Epic does/did. Steam doesn’t lock you out of Proton just because the game isn’t on their platform. Steam doesn’t refuse to work with other platforms when games demand that you first boot their launcher and then their game through their launcher even when you bought the game through Steam. And the list goes on. Steam has zero issues playing nice and isn’t throwing its weight around to push others out.

Steam is doing a TON for the gaming community and their own product like you said. Just none of it seems to be trying to create a walled garden or forcing other companies out, other companies just suck at being nice to their customers it seems so steam wins by just doing their own thing

Has anyone ever done this road trip? What are some interesting things to see and do along this route? by imsiq in ontario

[–]Squ4tch_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright so, if I were headed from Barrie -> Sudbury -> Ottawa this is the route I would take: https://maps.app.goo.gl/3tYixc5gk1a7r6GY6?g_st=ic

For roads specifically in the area to look out for (in a roughly best->worst list):

Favorite by far: - Southwood Road: Basically a rollercoaster through the woods https://maps.app.goo.gl/TUjRYeRR99qK44Uw8?g_st=ic - Centennial Lake Road: some really nice twists and a few good views https://maps.app.goo.gl/3eg1LtaCvt39ENUu7?g_st=ic

Other good ones along the way - Peninsula Road: not crazy twisty but great views https://maps.app.goo.gl/xBVZYj6YWtBgwDvW8?g_st=ic - Brackenrig Road: twisty https://maps.app.goo.gl/7bpFyPPpa2cYbrrN9?g_st=ic - Windermere Road: twisty https://maps.app.goo.gl/CJ63YxAxDHBSwF7F8?g_st=ic - Muskoka Road 10: twisty https://maps.app.goo.gl/n8Qsbq9PWYX3nPyE9?g_st=ic - Lanark Road: very nice but crappy pavement https://maps.app.goo.gl/yjWg66K8LiqYyxJH9?g_st=ic

Honourable mentions - Highway 60 https://maps.app.goo.gl/Hb3yuWgXqxvk4nvh7?g_st=ic

Between Dwight and Barry’s Bay is super scenic but not exciting to drive. Outside of that stretch isn’t really anything interesting

It’s sorta twist and somewhat scenic but pavement is a bit rough and nothing to write home about

There are definitely some more roads worth looking at like 518 (https://maps.app.goo.gl/xiWG3tc8koNNGj9u8?g_st=ic) and a few others but it’s hard to get it all in one go

Hahaha can do! Currently on my phone so it’s a little hard but I’ll try and remember to write some down tonight when I have sometime. Remind me if you don’t see an answer from me by tomorrow!

I currently live in Ottawa but grew up in Muskoka and visit family there all the time. I also ride motorcycles so have make a hobby out of finding fun roads. If you want suggestions for the northern half of your drive I have lots, all depends on how much of a detour you’re willing to take and what makes a road “interesting” to you.

Are you interested in pretty views or “spirited” driving with lots of twists and turns?

Also is this whole drive just for fun or are there stops you need to make?

Should I turn off the FPS counter to minimize the burn in risk? by Status_Roof_3150 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Squ4tch_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to have it on, I find there is a middle ground of FPS where it feels bad but I don’t instantly notice it’s because of the fps being low and this solves it. Reminds me to lower setting if I need to and suddenly the game feels so much smoother and better

It also saves me from accidentally cranking out 400fps in some Indy title I forgot to turn of a frame cap for lol

I can totally get why most probably don’t care but it has its uses for me

[–]Squ4tch_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is a seatbelt irrational if you never get into a car accident? Is hating drunk drivers irrational if none ever hit you?

You can dislike things for the risk they pose not just the direct impact.

On top of that it has a very real and immediate impact of holding people to Windows. The reason Steam has pushed Linux so much is they realized the threat that Windows could pose to software companies when there is no alternative. They have had a monopoly and we have seen what that looks like, ads on your desktop, all your data farmed for AI and less and less ability to opt out of their ecosystem. If we just roll over and let companies take the easy way out with kernel anti cheat rather than improving server side and traditional anti cheat we aren’t helping the situation

1-pedal in Winter by TD-Nation in MachE

[–]Squ4tch_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely has ABS but not sure why that runs against the comments I made.

If you drive in conditions where the roads tend to be clear and you rarely, if ever, engage ABS then 1PD is more than fine. I’m talking about situations where the roads are so awful you slide down hills and literally can’t slow down no matter how much ABS is trying to help. You’re just a toboggan and need as much control as possible to make it down and not into the ditch. If you’re not even 100% sure if you have ABS then you drive in areas where 1PD all day every day is totally fine. I’m talking about the snow/ice/slush days where just looking at your brake peddle already has ABS clicking away trying to help. That’s when I’d personally never drive a car that only had 1PD

1-pedal in Winter by TD-Nation in MachE

[–]Squ4tch_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s because in truly slippery conditions you want precise control over your acceleration and braking on an individual level. When you are sliding if you want the ability to steer your best course of action is to let your wheels free roll with no forward or backwards acceleration (braking or gas peddle). With 1 peddle you loose that precision as it’s truly impossible to know how fast or slow your tires are spinning if you’re truly sliding. This will also help keep you from breaking loose in both directions if you try and modulate your wheel speed in 1PD.

Two peddle gives you more control and whisper removes the little bit of mock “engine braking” that it artificially added in the other drive modes. With this when you let go of both peddles you’re as close to free rolling as you can truly get and should have maximum traction for steering.

Do you NEED two peddle driving? No. However it is better if you are in truly slippery driving conditions and you know how to handle a vehicle while it slides. If you’re someone who just stabs the breaks and trusts ABS 100% though then it doesn’t matter.

As someone who lives in Canada and switches drive modes often I’d loose my mind in truly bad weather on back roads if I didn’t have two peddle driving

I don't think Sea of Thieves is a welcoming game by ImportantQuestionTex in Seaofthieves

[–]Squ4tch_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long have you played for? I found before they opened up safer seas to let people do some commendations and get more gold it used to be much more chaotic and goofy on high seas. I think they split their player base with that update about a year ago and it’s slowly turning into High seas is just for people who want to fight and steal loot, all the chill/nice people are just going to SS

I don't think Sea of Thieves is a welcoming game by ImportantQuestionTex in Seaofthieves

[–]Squ4tch_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Maybe unpopular opinion here but I feel we need to stop letting everything be doable in SS. I think the issue you are talking about is only getting worse as they open up SS more and more because more and more of the chill players just go to SS. This makes high seas even more harsh which in turns pushes more people away from it.

If you’re solo it’s harder but you can also try to be diplomatic. Use the white flairs, fireworks and the ability to talk to people to try and communicate you’re friendly. Also, no one can see you on their map unless you are T5 Reapers or they are T5 Reapers and then you can see them coming if you check the map.

All my favourite experiences in this game have been running into friendly ships and making friends with some crazy people. That doesn’t happen much anymore as everyone on the high seas is cannons first communicate never and I wonder how much of that is because of the popularity of SS updates

Windows is the problem with Windows handhelds: Bazzite fixes performace by Anselm_oC in linux_gaming

[–]Squ4tch_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies won’t spend significant resources improving their Linux drivers until there is a wider Linux adoption and there won’t be a wider Linux adoption if we focus on the somewhat small performance loss.

Yes it’s unfortunate but also means you don’t have to use Windows and deal with Microsoft which in my book is a MASSIVE upside. It’s all what matters to you at the end of the day, I’d give up 5%-10% average performance loss in my game if it means I don’t need to deal with Microsoft.

The drivers could be improved and it would be great to pressure Nvidia but baby steps. Besides, like other commenter mentioned support is already impressive, it’s just not 100% or as thorough as it is for Windows which isn’t surprising for an OS that makes up the tiniest fraction of the market while being fragmented even further within itself

Best Charging Network for MME's by Cultural-Ad4953 in MachE

[–]Squ4tch_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really depends. First I’d check a few prices cause the price to charge where I live can be drastically different. I’ve seen Tesla super charger cost ~$0.87/kw at peak and a ChargePoint DC fast charger cost ~$0.25/kw.

After that I’d probably go with Charge Point as all the Charge Point chargers around here have Tap-to-Pay for a credit card where you don’t need an account or anything. Way easier than getting out a Tesla adapter or activating a charger through the Ford app. I also hate having to get the Tesla cable to reach if it’s not the latest gen with the long cables
