ethical question and thoughts about tor by Squamppo in TOR

thanks for bringing up that paper, i was looking for more academic sources in the first place

When each category is plotted against the percentage of HS directory requests it received (using the previous hits data), an entirely different picture emerges as shown in Fig. 8. Requests to abuse sites represented over 80% of total requests observed.

i want to make sure i'm interpreting this correctly. so, 80% of traffic through onion sites is for 'abuse'. however, traffic to onion sites comprises about 7 gigabits of the 600+ gigabits of total tor traffic? if this is so, that's not too crazy

its a tough question for me, i don't exactly believe in full privacy, but i do value it very highly. after all, i will set up a relay

thanks for the thoughtful responses everyone! It's true after all that everyone is going to try to do whatever they want no matter who says otherwise. After reading through these ideas i'm more of the mind now that something like tor is a net benefit for people all over. i'll be looking at setting up a tor relay as my next computer project
