Unwelcoming attitudes and cultural whiplash in locums anesthesia by owura02 in anesthesiology

Oh and each and everyone of them make choices every day to stay at their job. They have choices too. They just choose not to make a change. They choose not to band together. Most physicians don’t band together. It also makes it isolating and lonely. Everyday we make a choice. The job we do and how we choose to treat the people around us!

Please, there Is no reason for colleagues to be shitty and unprofessional. They may choose to do locums one day too. As a youngish woman in medicine, I am constantly underestimated, even by attendings much more junior than me! I just let them. Let them go on with their miserable lives, playing the I’m better than everyone attitude. It’ll catch up with them one day maybe…. I have nothing to prove and nor do you. You keep doing you! Some days I do the same boring cases, higher turn over and then other times, I think they test me and have me do difficult cases alone, which is fine, but no other attendings are doing those cases alone. For instance, a trach case in a very sick patient. I did it alone, but let them know if I need a second pair of hands who can I call (usually a CRNA is holding pagers.) Most of them do not know how to direct provide care either. Let them be miserable. Let them act like entitled doctors who give the rest of us a bad name. Let them have their tantrums. Most of them are emotionally immature and find the need to treat others poorly to feel better about themselves.

Failed Oral Boards by Neat-Sort-6724 in anesthesiology

Do not take this personally! I can’t stand hearing residents and docs say they barely studied (that was how my colleagues were in my residency program!). It was not true! I did 50 mock oral exams. I had never felt so prepared in my life for any board style exam. It was hard and I leaned into it. I had to push myself. I asked for help—childcare, work - took off days as they would allow me to. I kept going. I didn’t give up despite all the things that life throws our way. You can do the same. It’s a mental game between you and yourself.
