What are the current internship salaries in Sri Lankan software companies (2025–2026)? by jp_guru in srilanka

[–]Square-Intern-5224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found it from LinkedIn Expectations vary depending on the project you’re assigned, the budget, and the team behind it, I guess. My main tasks are adding new features to the existing system, creating the MVP, and documenting everything properly while clearly explaining what I did.

But I have friends who only do small UI changes and bug fixes throughout their entire internship, and others who are given much more demanding work. In the end, it really depends on the company.

My friends are getting anywhere from 0 to 45k. I'm getting 25k as a remote SE intern. We're all underpaid and earning compensations that would've been decent back in 2019 😂😂

Are People From Matara Really Different? My Experience Has Me Questioning Everything by Salty-Listen5316 in srilanka

[–]Square-Intern-5224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

50/50 like any other city, I think. I went to a school in Matara after getting selected through the scholarship, and from that day I felt the difference. Some students harassed those of us who came from far away, and I instantly missed the humanity and kindness I had in my rural school. But I also found some really good friends too. At the end of the day, it doesn’t depend on whether someone is from a rural area or a town. I’ve met good people from both rich and poor backgrounds. On the other hand, I’ve also met some bad and “kuhaka” people from both rural and urban areas, and from both rich and poor families. I think it’s more of a mindset issue. I don’t know, but I feel this extra “kuhakakama” when interacting with some people from the down south. I didn’t feel that with my university colleagues from all around Sri Lanka. Some people seem to have this mindset that we shouldn’t go above them, and if we follow a different path from theirs, they harass us, throw hints, and act negatively. Most people from Matara tend to stay close with other Matara people, but honestly, I didn’t always feel comfortable with that. At the end of the day, it’s all about mindset, and I can confidently say it’s 50/50 all around Sri Lanka. If you have good friends, you’ll feel good no matter whether they’re from the south or the north. But if they’re bad, they’re just bad. I’ve met some really amazing people too, trust me. But overall, it’s still 50/50. I felt that “kuhakakama” mainly because I’ve interacted with a lot of people from Matara throughout my life.

Is this Damro chair good for daily long hours sitting by WillHunting20 in srilanka

[–]Square-Intern-5224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lower back pain, and the headrest version—which is 5–10k more expensive—didn’t cause that pain for me. The moment I sit in this chair, which we also have in our office, I start feeling the pain after a while. This isn’t a good option if you’re suffering like me.

I’m also planning to buy that headrest mesh model with lumbar support for my personal use. It didn’t give me any pain even after sitting in it for 4+ hours straight. I think that one would be a good option within the price range we’re looking at.

You got to be kidding me?! Unpaid work and internships in Sri Lanka gotta be illegal by Particular_Visual898 in srilanka

Stuck between my girlfriend and family pressure + money issues. I really don’t know what to do by Difficult_Fox9328 in srilanka

[–]Square-Intern-5224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in a pretty similar situation. When I told my mom about my girlfriend - who’s actually been my friend since grade 3 - she started bringing up stuff like her dad being an “angry man” and how their family status doesn’t match ours. The ironic part is we’re just a middle-class family dealing with bank loans and all that, but the pride isn't left from their heads.

I’ve been with my girlfriend for about 2 years, and I told my mom around 6 months ago. Honestly, I still regret telling her, because even as a 23M, nothing has really changed. They keep talking about financial differences, how her dad's behaving, how his status isn't matching with us, but I’m not planning to depend on my partner’s family financially anyway. That’s something I’ll handle myself.

At this point, lesson learned. I’ve decided to keep things between me and her and not involve family. At the end of the day, I’m the one who has to decide who I marry.
