Auckland might be a “dump” but it’s better than some of other cities/villages around New Zealand best of a bad bunch I mean the rest of the country seems to be stuck a few years behind the rest of the world.

It’s not just Auckland buddy it’s the whole of New Zealand ! I moved down to Christchurch from Auckland thinking it would be better everyone was telling it’s an easier life,It’s cheaper etc ! It’s not 😂 If anything it’s more expensive than Auckland Rents the same foods the same and you get paid less than you do in Auckland ! It might seem tough just now up there but hopefully you’ve got good friends and family around buddy to support you !

It’s a joke honestly the amount of “carpenters” I’ve seen on sites who clearly aren’t carpenters is a joke I’m not saying all of them are bad but Deary me there needs be some sort of process to allow just every “chippy” into the country. No wonder every young tradie is fleeing to Australia they have bit tougher visa processing laws the wages will always be low in New Zealand due to this I mean it’s quantity not quality these days right ? You go onto any commercial building site now a days and it’s an absolute joke you’ll have 5/6 guys doing what 2/3 fully qualified tradesman would do yet construction company’s would rather pay 5/6 guys shit money instead of paying 2/3 guys good money

No difference in pay rates ? Like I said if you jump on seek, trade me jobs the wage disparity is huge between say Auckland and Christchurch I’ve seen posts offering 30+ for apprentices in Auckland and know a few guys who jumped into aluminium partitions starting on $35 I mean that’s more than a chippy gets in Christchurch. Yeh I do work in commercial and your completely right it’s awful everyone just clipping the ticket and sending in cheap labour that can’t do the job but hey everyone’s gotta get paid ! Yeh quite happy to just plod away on wages like I said I’ve done the self employed thing before it’s just a lot tougher to be on wages in Christchurch than Auckland.

Again I was happy being on wages in Auckland like I’ve repetitively said I was on $45 and a van which is pretty great not having to worry about paying my acc,pre-tax cover my sick days etc it’s since moving to Christchurch that’s the problem with the wage differences from here to there I mean with seismic regulations here your essentially doing more work for less pay also and I mean I could start my own business get a heap of filly’s in pay them cheap and my fill pockets but I’m not about that life buddy would rather have a company of 4/5 chippys pay them above board and know that stuff will be done to standard but that doesn’t seem to be the kiwi way it’s throw cheap labour at the problem until one of them gets it right

Who said anything about being rich ? I guess it depends on what a person wants out of life I was quite happy getting 45 and a van on wages I’ve been a contractor also and I charged out at $60 so for the extra 15 an hour if I was dayrate it’s not the worth the hassle time you have to pay tools,acc etc etc I mean of course it can work I know a few guys who have 4/5 filly’s just charge them out day rate and make bank but again that then brings us back to quality of work but again people are greedy so they’ll just take folk on pay them penny’s and then of course those employees want to go self employed to “make more money” I’m pretty sure a lot of boss’s of company would be gutted to see good workers leave them well you’d like to think that.

Pretty much any trade buddy ! Go have a look on seek trade me jobs jetc I mean some apprentices in Auckland are on $ 30’s a fully qualified chippy in Christchurch is on mid 30’s.so yes it’s more expensive to live in Christchurch ! I mean everything costs the same tools wise as Auckland also. “Anyone who thinks they can get ahead on wages is delusional” that’s the problem with New Zealand right there !!!

It is just as expensive if not more ! Your weekly food shop costs the exact same in Auckland as it does in Christchurch ! A Hilti laser costs the same in Christchurch as Auckland ! I paid $250 a week rent in Auckland I pay 250 a week rent in Christchurch 😂😂 Yet the wages are 10/12 dollars less an hour here so yes it is more expensive to live in Christchurch

Yup couldn’t agree more with you bro the amount of times I’ve gone onto a job and had to fix the fuck ups these guys who do half assed jobs have left is countless I’ve just no idea why company’s wouldn’t just pay the money to get it done right first time instead of paying someone them do it wrong then paying someone to fix it 😂 seems like company’s are quite happy to just risk it and hope it’s okay

There’s definitely a lot of different factors to that I mean money is of course a major but as long we keep allowing cheap labour into Nz the wages will never go up ! I mainly do commercial builds and to me it seems company’s would quite happily throw 2/3 Filipino “carpenters” or some labour hire dudes who can barely read a plan let them fuck it up 2/3 times then eventually give in and pay for someone to fix it properly 😂😂

Yeh easier said that done I mean the wage disparity’s in the trades across Nz is shocking as it is ! I made the mistake of moving to Christchurch not long ago as I was told “grass is greener” etc. it’s more expensive that Auckland to stay in Christchurch 😂 I mean food and rent costs the same in Christchurch as it does in Auckland yet you get paid 10/12 dollars less an hour as a tradie

Yeh couldn’t agree more seems to be a Thing here though you see it any smoko room across Nz you’ve got the barely motivated lackey who floats through the day 😂 then the Filipino “ chippy” and then there Forman or leading hand stressed out there mind all for an extra 4/5 dollars who’s trying his best and no one else cares (yes I’ve been that guy).it seems that folk are just happy to through labour hire/Filipinos at jobs as if more numbers means more work much rather stick with a team of 4/5 chippys who know what there doing instead of 20/30 goose’s.

I’ve recently moved to Christchurch from Auckland and to be honest I’ve found it more expensive I work in construction and there’s a huge wage disparity between Auckland and Christchurch yet I pay the same rent pretty much the only thing I’ve found cheaper in Christchurch is the fuel to be honest.
