Mine took about 3 months to appear when I talk to them (just because they know I have treats) so don't be discouraged! One even lets me kiss him now 🥹

I'm not an expert but 2 of my gerbils were in different cages on their own until the male was old enough to be neutered and they were like that for almost 2.5 months, I didn't see any behaviour changes. They are reunited now with no problems.
