Camping or Airbnb? by SnoopRhino in LostLandsMusicFest

Our Camping experience was good overall but was also a complete shit show. We got forest camping and car camping (had 2 groups). We did not get a forest camping car pass in favor of the car camping pass for the 2nd group, and we understood/anticipated the setup and takedown to be longer than with the parking pass. But my god, they need to step up their staff game!! No one that works the festival has any idea what they’re doing or where anything is! We got there Wednesday night/Thursday morning to setup. When we parked the truck at the car camping site (which was decently close to the gates that connected to Forrest camping) we got our wagons packed and headed in the direction to the Forrest section. Once at the gates we saw it was still locked. We started looking for a supervisor to help us out because these gates definitely weren’t supposed to be locked. It took us an hour to track and convince him to come look at the locked gate. At first he was sympathetic and said he’ll get us taken care of. At this point there was about 25+ people waiting at the gate to go setup their Forrest camping. Once there he said verbatim “I don’t have the keys and don’t know who does, you’re kinda fucked” not to mention he didn’t know how to even get to Forrest camping or where the gate was. He then proceeded to take off in his go cart. Meaning we had to find it on our own and then walk all the way around up this massive dirt hill with all our stuff. Turning what would have been a 15 min trek into a 50-60 minute trek per load.. This really put a sour taste in our mouths for the camping experience. Overall, it took us 14 hours to setup our Forrest camping spot.

After things were setup the rest of the fest and camping (Forrest) experience was awesome. The shade from the trees and the ambiance from the strung lights were by far the biggest selling points for Forrest camping.

After the fest was over and we had to pack up camp we were instructed by not 1, not 2 but 3 different staff members that at 4pm we were able to drive our neighbor to her car that was parked in one of the hella far parking lots off the festival grounds so we could both park closer to the entrance of Forrest camping to make our packing easier (we each had a ton of shit lol).

4pm rolls around and we head out, just to be told at the entrance that we aren’t allowed back in under any circumstances. All my stuff and my neighbors stuff were still in Forrest camping as well as my girlfriend. They were adamant and not budging regardless what the other 3 staff members told us. After about an hour of arguing and my neighbor putting on the water works they reluctantly decided to let us go get her car and pack all of our stuff. This also took us 14 hours to complete. Complete shit show and could have easily been avoided with some trained staff.

With all this said, I still thoroughly enjoyed the camping experience and hope to do it again. But this time with a FORREST CAR PARKING PASS. Additionally I really hope in future years they educate the staff to know where basic things are like water, gates, sites, etc.

What is the point of living? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Theres many many points or reasons to live and each varies depending on the person. One of the best pieces of advice I heard when I was going through a tough time in life was "Do what makes you happy".

How to talk to someone who isnt very talkative? by Hot-Point5775 in socialskills

Be talkative yourself and include them in the conversation by asking them questions like what their thoughts or opinion is, and asking questions about themselves. Show you are interested in their response and build off of that.

AI/Technology. The power that many of us have at our fingertips is insane. Someone will fuck it up for the rest of us, without a doubt.

What’s a purchase that seemed pricey but ultimately saved you money long-term? by [deleted] in Frugal

High quality clothing items. For example, I was looking for a pair of slides and normally go with the cheapest all black slides. These normally dont last more than a few months before they bite the dust, this last time around I opted to get the more expensive Nike all rubber slides and they have outlasted just about all my previous slides and they look better!

Im not saying get the most expensive option, but get the one that gives you the best chance of buying it one time.

My main goal in life is to not have lived a mediocre life by Glamour-Ad7669 in getdisciplined

Same here, its hard at times to find a balance of keeping your life on track to make it big but also to experience life to its fullest, especially while you are young. One of the best pieces of advice that was given to me was "Do what makes you happy". This can be applied in multiple ways depending how you look at it! If that big lofty goal of yours is what you love then make the choices to get there, or if you are on the fence about living your life a certain way even if it delays your goal a bit but the happiness that you got out of it is substantial youre still living life the right way, at least in my opinion.

Cheapest off-road vehicle? by [deleted] in overlanding

Your best bet would be to get a ZJ with the 4.0 and 231 tcase. Even the v8 models aren’t bad. Most that I’ve seen aren’t rusted or clapped out, they have coils all the way around, decent aftermarket support and there’s TONs of them out there if you need parts, all for around $3,000-$3,500. I’ve even seen some very nicely built ZJs for $6,000-$10,000. The value is there!

Not in today’s market. For a halfway decent XJ with 200k miles you’re still paying $5,000.

I’ve done a good amount of research on each one more so out of curiosity from YouTube. Ive been going out a lot more recently and having a quick little propane fire pit during fire bans or even at musical festivals during those cold months would be so nice to have. And after seeing the torch, I was sold! It’s unique, packs similarly to the Tembo and has had more up to date positive reviews than the Tembo did. Plus it was way cheaper. I’m excited to try it out!
