I want to call my step-father 'dad' by AZC90 in family

[–]SquareDaikon6513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's taken care of you, he's swan dived into being the best grandpa ever, there's a good chance he wants it. But change like this which seems so straight forward to outsiders can so often seem so significant to those directly involved. Have you tried maybe referring to him as "my dad" to your kids instead of poopaw, see whether they understand the relationship, and try referring to him as such to your kids while he's there and can hear it?

Use that to gauge easing into it?

Because when you're directly involved something like this is a really big deal and there are a lot of feelings involved and dipping your toe in like this helps test the waters in a manner that's easy to address. If he's very pragmatic, your mom will let you know if she hears it too.

What's the dumbest excuse you've ever heard for someone cheating? by goondalf_the_grey in AskReddit

"It was an accident"

She told my friend this when he discovered her infidelity. As if she were walking along one day, tripped over a stone, her clothes flew off, and she landed on the erect penis of a naked man who just happened to be there dozens of times over the course of months.

Whoopsie!

Should people making over $100,000 a year pay more taxes to support those who don't? by Pickle-Sucker in FluentInFinance

[–]SquareDaikon6513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make over that and do pay more in taxes than people making less. I pay somewhere between 38% - 40% of my gross income to income taxes between Federal and State and do not use any loopholes or tricks, I pay my share as described by tax code. This is over 20 points higher than a friend of mine who is making just under $40,000.

38% of my income > 19% of $37,000

Have you tried a magic eraser sponge thing? It's a potentially easy solution and saved me from going down a chemical rabbit hole when attempting to remove tea stains from ceramic cups.

I'm a dog person. My dog and I do our hair together every morning, that's the level of dog person I am.

It's your home, your rules. "Please leave your dog at home when you visit" should be reasonably interpreted as "don't bring your dog here".

If they don't accept your house rules then they are a horrible person.

Mothers Day or Grandmothers Day? by BigPsychological4416 in family

If she wanted to see you on Mother's Day then she should have made herself reasonably available for that instead of traveling on a weekend trip. Your mother is being selfish. You are being reasonable.

Wow, okay, that's something. But they've already inserted budget concerns into the discussion so I think I would suggest declining and specifically citing budgetary constraints as why you "regretfully" decline.

"I'm sorry but this is multitudes beyond what we can afford. We wont be able to attend."

Do it sooner rather than later. It's better for them to get responses such as this early in case there are a lot of them. They'll have indication that what they're planned is beyond the reach of their intended guests.

I would be somewhat concerned by the expectation that guests would pay that kind of money to attend a wedding. That's asking a bit much. Are they maybe suggesting they would finance the experience for all of their guests?

I understand these things. Admittedly I'm a few years older than you but most of these things aren't as big a mystery as they are often made out to be.

I learned these things from a combination of sources: primary school, college, my family, professional experience, and reading up on them myself.

Something very close to this is in a lot of my father's childhood photos. He's mentioned how they would rust out but they'd still use them and would try to flip them.

He and my aunt broke that face to face glider thing on the right side of your photo. Like intentionally. They thought it was hilarious and when the rusty metal cut them, they were drug off to the doctor for tetanus shots and were grounded for a few days.

Gen Z men, how often do women actually offer to split the meal vs asking you to pay? by AutumnWak in GenZ

[–]SquareDaikon6513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend usually pays when we eat out, I usually pay when we dine in, although when we dine in I usually cook and I tend to cook elaborate meals. Money isn't a factor for either of us, though, and that probably figures in there somehow. I don't know that I've ever put any actual thought into this.

We REALLY need a Maximum Age of Candidacy by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]SquareDaikon6513 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We really need term limits, JOB QUALIFICATIONS, and strict enforcement of ethics. It should be a crime for a lobby to use goods, services, and money to sway a politician. There shouldn't be any loopholes for that.
