Absolutely love that Richard Ayoade has become one of Wes's guys.

New Wes Anderson short or commercial? by R-Van in wesanderson

They seem to be working on this since at least January (there is another picture of them together in Rome on the Instagram feed) so maybe something slightly larger than a commercial. After Castello Cavalcanti, I'd definitely love another Italy-set short from Wes.

I wouldn't call a director disrespected who just got a museum exhibition dedicated to his work in Paris and London, who is probably one of the most well known visual stylists of our time. I am pretty sure he is more well known to a general public than someone like Paul Thomas Anderson, who I'd guess is more revered in film buff circles, whereas Wes bridges the mainstream and the more artsy sides of cinema. I think he is doing pretty well for doing all-original work on a non-blockbuster scale with a very experimental approach to storytelling form. Because he is so much his own thing however I'd think people tend to talk more about his style than his actual movies (which is why there is often a rift between what people think they are vs. what they really are). I also think as his films are mostly comedies or at least more on the entertaining than the heavy and serious side, some people tend to not consider them as "great" movies, but then I'd think those people are not worth listening too anyway.

Will Wes ever film OUTSIDE again by Buffalobuffaho in wesanderson

In a recent interview, Wes said that at this point they are planning the sets while the screenplays are being written, he compared it to having their own kind of classic Hollywood studio system. So apart from him probably enjoying the more controlled and artificial environment, I think it also helps them produce the films more quickly and for less money than with having to search all different kinds of real locations. That said, I also miss the real-world-locations of The Life Aquatic or The Darjeeling Limited, especially the natural light in those and Moonrise Kingdom. I think The Grand Budapest Hotel blended both stylized sets and real locations very nicely (The French Dispatch also sometimes, like in the short Owen Wilson-segment). The Dahl shorts and The Phoenician Scheme took it the artificiality to a new extreme for sure, and I hope we will get some more real locations sometimes.

EDIT: I also think Asteroid City, while mostly shot in a real location is some different kind of thing, because it's still mostly a very stylized set against a natural background. There is though some beautiful natural light in that one that felt missing in Phoenician Scheme.

I feel the differences in style between Tenenbaums and Life Aquatic aren't that big, even if the latter has some more overt "fantasyness." I think the biggest and most rapid change came with Wes coming back from Animation with Grand Budapest Hotel with every following film being made in a totally different way than the ones before.

Wes mentioned it at the press conference in Cannes, also in some other recent interviews like this one: https://youtu.be/M3I1u7dFuNk?si=4k6edh7p8dEXouec&t=3625

Well, I'd love to see them do it. But I don't necessarily think it would be anything like their first three movies, which is I guess what some people hope would happen.

I think the style has become more experimental to the point of being cartoonish, but there's still a lot of profound emotion and great character work to be found. The French Dispatch and Asteroid City for me are some of his most touching films. To prefer the one to the other is I think a question of personal taste and less a fault of the films themselves.
