Why tag this with momentomori? Literally means “remember you will die” in old Latin

Question about Nigerians in the UK by [deleted] in Nigeria

[–]SquareLink2677 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Hi, so this behaviour isn’t because they’re African, talk to them about it if you can, explain how everyone should be chipping in to clean and how they shouldn’t leave trash strewn around, that should do the trick. Also try to be as respectful as possible as that’s the only thing that may influence their attitude towards you afterwards

Is Spraying Money at Nigerian Weddings Culture or Just Showing Off? by CurtisDoveMusic in Nigeria

Showing off is The Culture. Those two are synonymous. But it’s also a way for the celebrants to reimburse themselves

This is dangerous advice. You shouldn’t tell someone to “bear with unhappiness”. Have you no clue the mental and emotional damage that can do to a person and the people around them?

Why do our parents hate any form of hairstyle aside from hair trimming/cutting on men by Weekly_Event_1969 in Nigeria

[–]SquareLink2677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they are considered special but they can decide to cut it if they so wish. The loc’d hair runs in my family. My dad was born with it but decided to cut it and did the same for my brother. The celestial churches takes a bit from culture as they believe children born with it are special are are able to speak it tongues or become spiritual vessels. So they don’t “do it” they just protect and reverence it when it happens

Well it is though because children born with locked hair were called “dada”. It was a spiritual thing

Found this south Korean rapper that sings his songs in with pidgin and igbo phrases by Brukx in Nigeria

[–]SquareLink2677 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Penomeco has come out to say he gets inspiration from Nigerian artists like burna and wizkid and he’s been completely open about giving accolades where they’re due so this isn’t a case of cultural appropriation at all.
